Yeah the wheels suit it really well, especially compared to the steels with those dull plastic trims- the ones that look like mk3 glt alloys but aren't.
Tom- the lights near the selector are something to do with the aftermarket reversing radar type device. The car belonged to an old guy y'see.
Steve- It was indeed on ebay, and I damn near stole it for £103.19! I think it'll take me a while to adapt to cvt, it feels like a severely slipping clutch at first, but it's pretty smooth really.
James- what's that about the brake tester thingamajig wotsit? Sounds odd.
I hope there are no nasty surprises waiting at the MOT centre. I can't find anything wrong at all, there isn't even any rust. Some wax and some bumper blackinator stuff will have it looking as new as it feels to drive. How can I keep it from turning pink, besides garaging it?

Don't let D3K4Y0 anywhere near it..........

In terms of the brakes...I'm not exactly sure what the problem is, other than that if they carry out the standard brake test (I think it's the brake test), they'll most likely destroy the clutch. We've heard of more than one case of a perfectly healthy vario going in for an MOT, blatently being wrecked by the garage, then handed back to the owner with an "it broke...but it's an old car anyway...here's a lovely Fiesta for just £2500..."
The car must never be started or revved up in Park. Always start in Neutral. Otherwise you risk a burnt clutch.
Similarly when the car is on the brake tester, normally on autos they leave it in drive whilst they do the test. This will bugger up the CVT system so you must have them put it in Neutral whilst they run the rollers for the differentlal brake test.
Apart from that should have no problems. Clutch should, if all's well start engaging at about 1200 rpm, although it won't really bite hard until 1500-1700 rpm. If its engaging high, there's a good chance that the clutch needs either adjusting or replacing.
The testers we use are canny sound, so I'll explain it to them cheers guys. I was gonna get my dad to take it while I'm at work, but I think I better go rather than risk chinese whispers. The clutch seems all groovy at the moment, like it'll start to creep if you have the choke too far out. I haven't looked at the rev counter while driving but I will.
I'm chuffed with my little bargain and you can all rest assured that it'll be treated like a princess.

I think my red GLi's the same colour. In 7 years I've only polished it once, and no "pinkiness" yet ...
I did something silly with a vario once. Not being used to the revs being so high when setting off I thought the brakes were tight and so put in in 'N' (while moving) to check. The car reacted as if I'd put a normal auto in 'P'.
I'll add more detail photos of the lack of rust as and when I'm underneath it in the coming days. What sort of oil should I be using? I only ask because I can get 4litres of mobil1 for £24 from costco, a saving of about £20 from halfords prices. Any recommendations?
