How many miles should i be getting out od my 340 1.4dl, just normal driving etc from £10. At the moment im getting 60 miles. To me this doesn't seem like much atal. What do you guys get?
Also when i turn the engine off, most of the time the engine keeps on going for normaly about 4 seconds. Could this have anything to do wit it? Cheers

What kind of driving do you do? Stop/start in town, gentle cruisin on country lanes, flat out on the motorway?

i get about 30mpg trundling about and around 40/45 on the motorway at 60ish. its about 35 mpg combined i guess. so thats around 80 miles for £10. strangely loaded up its slow as anything but doesn't use a great deal more fuel.
is yours heating up properly? temp gauge about middle. only mine got sub 30mpg figures around and about when the thermostat was shot.

I'll second that, I used to get 35 mpg combined with my old 340 1.4 ...

Its basicly used to go to work and back, and then out and about. Work is 32 of country lanes, so is a bit stop start as there is quite a few junctions also some very long straights. I put £10 in last night, have done 62 miles today and have just had to go fill up. When i do motorway driving, i get about 95 miles out of a tenner.
Im pretty sure thermostat is ok, in the morning it starts of with nothing then goes to about middle after a few mintues.

Depending on how hilly your terrain is, and the type of roads you're on, that sounds about spot-on. Remember a 300 is a deceptively large car - similar in size to a Cavalier, Sierra, and BMW E30.
I calculated about a year ago (at prices back then) that 100 miles to £10 was about 50mpg. I'd get that on long motorway journeys.
The 1.4s are quite thirsty if you put your foot down - but they do make reasonable power for such an inefficient engine design - they're on a par in terms of peak BHP with some modern 16v 1.4s.
EDIT: Regarding run-on....which year is your car? That is a problem...
cheers
James

Well it's the idle solenoid sticking, usually. Can be the engine dieseling because it's super rich....but more likely to be the solenoid either not being disengaged, or sticking.
