im interested in them because
a) they look good
b) i do a lot of country roads and they would probably help wen im belting about at night
c) its loooks different!
i would also like to apologise if this makes no sense what so ever! ive been up about 28 hours with no sign of going to bed yet!
cheers - ben
oh yeah, was there a button for the grill and/or foglights? or where they just wired up to the main beamn headlights? im askin cos i want to keep it looking as standard as possible inside ie volvo switches inside that dont really stand out!

This particular auction's over:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0109755756
but there are some good pictures of the grille there in case you want to shame that Hella employee
<edit>
I think Pete & Chris_C are the Hella Grille experts, I'm sure they'll be able to help more. But I think the extra lights are just wired up to the main beam, AFAIK there's no extra switch to turn them on.

Agreed to all three

Makes a heck of a difference on lanes tbh.
If you want one, ask Carl really nicely if he'll split his from Fioner if it hasn't sold. Nick's I know is off to Northland (Is it going on the minty fresh 1.4 though...?!?) At the moment I don't have any spare, I've sold all my others, but both Kar and Fake have them. There is another owned by one of our members in London, but I don't know if he wants to part with it at the mo, last time I heard it wasn't fitted. Basically, its about being lucky, but 4 came up in a month a year or so ago, I've only heard of 1 since.
As to switches, there is a fog lamp switch on the GLT, goes next to the rear wiper on a hatch, but the grill wires directly to the main beam. It's illegal to have the grill on without main beam, the only useful thing that is sometimes worth doing is fitting a grill cut switch, so you have mainbeam, but not the grill. I havn't, but Nick and Carl have, and it does make rally's easier, so I will too when I get round to it!

I have two of those grilles one fitted with foglights and another with auxiliary high beam hope you understand what i mean. Those high beam things are currently on the car and they have 100W bulbs also i have xenon conversion headlights. And i can say that all of them (grille with auxiliary lights etc..) are worth of every penny. Although they are bit illegal here in Finland but the fines which i could get having them installed are small amount of money compared to added safety which they give.

How do you know they are different lights Tourinki? Are the lenses different?

According to Tero (forum member) another one is fitted with fog lights and they are still in its genuine cartboard box. I'll have a better look at them tomorrow and if you want i can post pictures of differences between those two lights.

If my Hella grille does get removed from Fioner I'll be keeping it for a rainy day I'm afraid.
As Chris says they're wired directly into the main beam as standard, but it's not difficult to install a bypass switch so they don't come on. I had removed my front fogs so they are wired into that switch to keep things looking standard. Although I've modified the face of the switch so the wiggly fog lines aren't there, just the lamp shape.

I had a better look of the fog light grille. Those lenses are different and i wouldn't be supriced if the whole light assembly is different.

I'm taking mine off of Fioner this weekend, but unless you offer me a silly amount of money I'll be keeping it for future projects

The only difference is if they have been fitted, there are 2 snap off tabs depending on year. Mk3 if you get a new one don't snap off either tab

And you will have to make up bottom brackets for mk3's too, even with both tabs still attached.

what do you mean by 'bottom brackets'? the parts that the bottom of the grill locates into? (if its fits how i tihnk it does, not been at that end for a while!)
any tips on wiring it in?
i mean ive done alot of wiring so i know what to do, ie relays and so on. but will the wiring fuses and dim/main relay cope with the extra lights aswell?

Yup, the 2 pegs at the bottom of the grill is to close on the hella for a mk3.
Wiring is easy. Power to battery clamp, earth to the earth strap, and a wire to the mainbeam light wire.
