carb tuning/setting up

Post by pyro »

hi again folks, i remember reading somewhere that carbs on the 360 340 etc (then again all carb engines) need to be set up after so many years/miles, im assuming that this is true, and as the b200k always runs rich (?) i was considering getting it set up properly and proffesionally - is this a good idea - ive also been smelling alot of petrol from the engine side of things, no leaks ive checked, or is this just because its an old carb engine?

does any one know of any tuners (or setter uppers!) in that strange place up norf ideally near york/leeds etc?

correct me if im talking a load of tripe up yonder!
cheers - ben

It's worth it mate, just make sure the rest of your set up is fresh, so the carb gets set with the car at its best... so check fuel lines don't leak, clean fuel filter etc. Also maybe a gasket refresh in the carb itself? I'd be tempted to rebuild the carb first before I had it retuned tbh... then you will be at super fresh again.

i was thinking something along those lines, those dodgy braided fuel lines engine end and tank end look ok, but i may aswell put something decent on them, and im assuming that the spec is in the heinz manual for the float height and other settings

also it does 'over run' wen you turn the ignition off, ie carry on running for a second or two, sticking fuel cut of solenoid?

im thinking i just needs a basic tune up and service,

any advice or tips with the carb?

cheers

Best way to tune the carb is get the car up to running temp.

Stick it on the emissions anaylser, and turn the mixture screw anti clockwise a bit wait 30secs for the mxiture to have changed at the exhaust pipe, watch the reading on screen go down and keep repeating the process till you get down to the correct CO rating for your engine, had to do it the other day on my 340!

My Co was 8% lol was the quickest answer to my fuel porblem ever! coudl even knock emissions down to 1CO but that was pushing it.

Enjoy
