Speakers

Post by retrocool73 »

My 340 will be ready in the next week, I've bought some decent Kenwood 3-way speakers to replace the crappy original ones, same size... trying to remove the old speakers from the shaped plastic surround with great difficulty, can it be done???

IIRC, just gently pry the covers off with a flat screwdriver, then there should be 4 screws holding the speaker in. The plastic covers only just fit over the OEM speakers, so you might need to get busy with a file to get them back on, or just leave them off like I did

IIRC the speakers are held onto the door card one way, then the screws holding the speaker to the mounts are from the rear, so hidden when fitted to the door. Might be wrong, working from a tired memory on this one!

From what i remeber you have to flip the front cover off undo the 4 screws and that takes the speaker off comple with the plasic. You can then seperate the plastic from the speaker.

It doesn't show the screws for the actual speaker to the mount, but they are from memory on the face of the bracket mount surrounding the speaker.

I think our original posted wants to know how to remove the original speaker cone from the mounting frame. It's glued in pretty effectively, from what I remember. I think I gave up trying to get mine out.

cheers

Basically, using a flat-blade screwdriver, the old speakers have to carefully prized the plastic surrounds and the new ones fitted in their place.
In case anybody wants to know, the speakers I have fitted are Kenwood KFC-1061S
