340 to Timbuktu!

Post by monkeypod »

hi all. i'm taking a Volvo 340 from London to Timbuktu as part of the Plymouth-Banjul Challenge. For those not familiar with the rally, the basic idea is to buy an old car, then drive down west africa (to Timbuktu in my case) where it is then auctioned off and the proceeds go to local charities. check out plymouth-banjul.co.uk for more details.

I've got a 1988 1.7 340 Redline which is about to undergo some work to prepare it for the Sahara. i'll be funding the trip from my own pocket and i'm basically on the scrounge for any free/very cheap parts & equipment for the 340 to help me make it to Timbuktu. anybody got a pile of bits they dont want that they could donate to a charitable cause?! or maybe you have a business/project that you want advertised on the car in return for a few useful spares? Any bits not used on the way down (fingers crossed) will all add to the value of the car at the auction and therefore the charities get more money. any offers of help gratefully received.

thanks all

Gareth

Hi, and welcome to V3M :)

You may want to get in touch with Hugh on here, as he competed in the race last year with a 360.

Here's a link to a topic about getting the car ready :) http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... t=plymouth

Good luck with it, and keep us updated

Haha, yeah, Hugh made it back. I've spoken to him a few times since, but he's not got a 300 anymore!

On big tip for you is to make sure the spring seats on the front struts are 100% solid. This is a ommon failure espaecial when stressed.
