i have just bought a 1.7 340gl and everytime i try to go round a corner fast it cuts out. is this a common problem and is there a cure??

Yup, it is vaguely common, the floats will be out in the carb. It's either starving or flooding the engine of fuel as you corner. Have a search, there are several threads about it in the last 6-8weeks, my car was doing it as well as a few others, the post shows the fix.
