im wanting to weld the diff on my 1.7 340, but the diff cover is rediculously rusty, and i know it will just fall apart when i take it off, so i need to find a new one.
any ideas where i could get one?

Thanks
Phil

Good question Phil. These are no longer available new, and are very prone to both warping and rusting horribly. There was talk of reproduction ones being made a while back, but I think we're still in "find a good one at a scrap yard" territory at the moment.

The foundary liked the looks of Mac's proto he made, but I havn't gone any further with it.

I'd imagine (at a guess, it's been a while since I made anything for casting, and nothing this complex before) the master will need to be remade a nadgers bigger for shrinkage, but maybe not, and once they are cast the backs will need machining flat and holes drilled.

I used to work at a place that had regular orders with a foundary, and the boss there has said he'll run it up with some of his orders, but at a guess theres a fair amount more groundwork to go into it, which I havn't been able to put in

A search should bring up whats happened so far, I'd be happy to let someone else run with the idea, I'd love to see the production happen.

Chris has some contacts in the casting industry, so was going to look into having a cast version made.
