Classic Car Insurance

Post by radiodanno »

Ok, need to investigate classic car insurance...

I'm only 24 - so I'm going to wait until my 25th to sort out the insurance as most companies won't go lower than that.

Who are people here using? Peter Best (i think they use ecclesiastical) came in at £150!

Any other recommendations?

All help gratefully received.

I use HIC (Herts) and have been using them for classic policies since I was about 23. They don't mind about modifications, even engine transplants and they'll insure you 3rd party on any car (no matter how old you are). I think the 360 costs me about £200 a year with all the mods declared but only 3rd party, and the SD1 is about £250 with the mods declared but fully comp.

Hang on a minute, am I to understand that classic insurers recognise the 300? Does that mean I'm an idiot for paying swiftcover loads? Is there a cutoff date they use to determine classic status?

All insurance companies are different. For mine the car needs to be 15+ years old.

Tends to be any car over 15 years, up to 7,500 miles (but i've never had a mileage check).

Look into it!

How you guys manage low quotes?

Im trying to get onto classic insurance but they will not cover the car because it is worth less than £1000!

so a 1.4 340 is coming out as £500+ for me, (Im 23 with 6 years of claim free driving (2 Years NCB on another car already).

Think you answered your question mate, theres a big difference between claim free driving and having a no claims bonus! I get something like 75% for that, but with ringing round you should be able to get the quote down, always ring good companies as well as internet the big ones.
