LOCKING WHEEL NUT

Post by neil sutton »

Hi, i ve just broken my locking wheel nut key. Its a four prong type that looks a bit like a round castle turret, the prongs lock into four slots in the wheel bolt part . I think it was an original volvo part circular 1986/87. If anyone has a spare i be happy to buy it of you. Cheers. :(

Hi there! If it was an original Volvo part, trying a Volvo stealership...... sorry dealership might be worth a try. It's probably something they don't shift a lot of, so there might be a few knocking about still.

Failing that....... a scrap yard might be able to help if they have the fore thought to keep them when they remove bits and pieces from cars, thus duplicating some.

Scrap yard will just hit it with a hammer, it's what they do on most that come in, and don't worry about the wheel.

Neil, do you know if it's a Volvo nut? I've got some halfords ones somewhere that look a bit like a castle (as opposed to a McGuard snake type)

Yeah you're right Chris, or they drop the car on the offending wheel....... but some scrap yards, well more salvage and those who remove parts sometimes have the forethought!

Chris thanks to you & the other guys for replying. I think the Halfords locking nuts that you have might be the same if they have the four little blocks/prungs on the top. Making it look a bit like a castle turret. The 14inch alloys & locking nuts now on my 1985 model 360 GLS were an ebay purchase & came off a 340GL & were original opition spec on that car. I just assumed the nuts were Volvo spec but they may not be.
I would be really interested in having one of your Halford nuts. If you are wiling to post one to me i am happy to pay for it + postage. I live in Gosport so not too far away. Many thanks Neil. PS Have also sent you an email .

I've replied to your email mate, check your spam box ;)

Short version is I'm willing to try my key, but it's a few miles away and will be 4 weeks until I can get to it!
