Volvo 340 DL choke cable - adjustment

HI

Can anyone help me with a problem?

I am in Sardinia (Italy) and my beloved Volvo is off the road because when I start it it sounds like the choke cable is out on full. This only started a couple of days' ago.

I could take it to someone local but I don't really trust them with it. Is it easy to fix myself and can anyone give me any hints as to how to do it.

When I get the chance I will post a picture of this car.

can you describe the problem a bit more - are the revs running high, or does the engine splutter a lot?

revs are running really high. It is not spluttering.

Thanks for your response by the way

thats fine..

what you need to do is 2 things - firstly look at the carb and get someone to pull the choke in and out at the same time (engine does not need to be on) - you should see the throttle moving in and out - if it is moving all the way to the stop screw, then the choke operation is fine, and you need to adjust the cable stop - this is essentially a screw that stops the throttle plate moving too far back - unscrew this a little bit and the revs should drop...
