reading through the threads it is amazing how many do go off topic from one degree to another , and how innocently it happens.( I must admit that myself and Foggy are probably the worst at this ),
its natural really and we must not get too anal over it ,
but how many times does a face to face conversation go on and off of the origional topic life would be very boring and cold if it didnt.
Usually it starts by some one making a comment that has some off topic content and others responding to that comment ,either in fun or often asking a genuine question( if irrelevant to the original thread ) and then the original thread gets lost in the friendly banter or genuine interest shown .
for example the december meet thread .
the whole thing started due to Petes comment about not wanting fwd french tat in pictures ,,fair comment
I replied jokingly and then foggy commented and another member asked a genuine question
so apart from the fact the whole sorry affair is FARRELLS fault
it goes to show how easily it can happen .
now the whole thread is being consumed with comments about thread jacking !!!
what I suggest is ( and it wont be easy ) if you want to ask something that could lead to a thread going off tangent,
do it in the general forum with a very clear title and then perhaps post a link to that thread in the thread that made you think of it
does that make any sense at all ?
a link to a fresh thread is likely to be far less a distraction
I also feel we need an area where we can chat about anything and personally I would still like a joke forum as well
overbore has got the balance just right but then again it isn't a one marque forum like this one
http://www.overbore.co.uk/forum/
people who want to just talk about cars dont use the lounge
just as
people who dont want to have a laugh dont visit overbores sandpit simple as that
yes this is a forum about the 300 series volvo but there are other things on the planet worth talking about so lets try not to be so anal and a bit more accepting of other peoples views.
in the christmas meet thread I said something like
I think part of the success of V3M it is the fact that this is far more than a forum about one make of car,
but a place where friendships are made and kept.
please dont prove me wrong
