Remove the bolts which keep the carb cover in place, and I thought you also need to remove the bolts which hold the carb. Then carefully lift the cover, the float will come along with it.

It is for the 1.7 is it?

I think you better change the float completely as it is "renowned" of changing into a sinker over time. It ain't that expensive, I reckon about 30pound at the renault dealer.

You need to turn the top plate over (is the main gasket ok?) and measure the distance from the top of the float to the carb top plate, when (this needs checking... either the floats are touching the ball bearing in the needle valve, or are pushing it fully down) The measurement you require and the where the ball should be bit are in the 1.7 engine green book in the technical section.

To check the float, just get a bowl of water and see if it... floats ;) I held mine by the pivot whilst testing

EDIT: forgot to mention how to actually change it.... bend the cenral tab that rests against the ball bearing!
