When the clutch is pressed in the torque tube and gearbox isn't spinning, but when you let it out it is, mine has being noisy ever since i owned it, i think it's the torque tube bearings as i have had two gearboxes and both do it. not much help but that's where i think it is.

I've owned 3 360's in my time, and they've all done this. Don't know whether it's common on the 340's though as they have a slightly different set up.

i get it on mine alot, its not a big problem because it doesnt carry on when driving under load, it does it while idle-ing. this could be anything from your engine running shakey to it being loose.

Is it a 'rattle', or a heavier vibration? If it's a rattle, I'd suggest that something relatively lightweight on the underside is loose - an exhaust component, for example. Vibrations directly from the driveline are usually pretty impressive in terms of scale, so I think you'd know about it. The other option is that the clutch release bearing can 'chatter' when old, but should last a good while before giving grief.

hey foggy i think its a bearing as its deff prop related i think its the bearing on the clutch housing. otherwise on the gearbox end. mine does it when the engine idles slower than 850rpm stops when clutch is depressed.

Cheers

The clutch output shaft on Nessy was bent...just enough that you notice it, if you looked really closely. It made the whole car shake at idle, and it felt like it'd self destruct near redline. I'd expect a "rattle" to be something much more minor.

cheers

Our 340 does exactly the same, a weird rattling at idle. I'm not sure if it does it much when warm or if it's only when cold. Pushing in the clutch stops it just as you say.

Hi Silvia.

I had a 340 1.7 before my 360 GLT, and the 340 rattled when idling and the clutch wasen't depressed. Didn't rattle when clutch was depressed!!
The reason for this is the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft is worn! When it wears you will hear a rattle, but it's nothing to worry about!
Most 360 also have this problem, and you can't change the bearing unless you remove the clutch (read: ALOT OF WORK)!

Don't worry about the rattle!! Just enjoy driving the 340 :D

BTW, Dalahare, the 340 dosen't have a torque tube

Merry X-mas to you all.

Regards.
Peter
