340 Center console

Hi, my volvo 340 has a huge hole in the center console below the air vents, it looks like a place you could mount a stereo but the hole is at least twice as high and a little wider. Can you get some sort of panel that will plug into this section leaving a single DIN space for a radio/cd-player?

I'll take a picture tomorrow as well..

Below the air vents should be fan and heater controls, then below that the radio section, below that a clock/blanking plate, ashtray and cigar lighter, below that is the cubby hole.

You can get fascia plates on ebay to fit in a smaller radio :)

Okay then, I'm missing the clock/blanking plate  I have a clock where the RPM gauge usually would be though. I'll collect a clock/blanking plate from the scrapyard then ;)

This is a bit different being a LHD and being a Mk2 (I'm assuming yours is a Mk3?)

You can however see the cigar lighter, ashtray and clock in a row below the radio. I think that cars without a rev gauge had the clock in its place and a blanking plate in the centre console, but cars with rev guages have the clock in the centre console.

But I could be wrong ;)

Mine is an LHD and an '87? Not sure on mk2/mk3. Anyway i assume the car has had that radio before, as the blank space is eexactly the same size as the radio.

Now, any suggestions for filling the blanks in?

'87; not quite sure which that would be. The easiest 'indicator' (geddit ) is the location of the front side indicators. Mk2's have the indicators on the front wings, mk3's have them on the side of the front bumper.

Another easy tell is the rear light clusters. Mk2's have the number plate illumination lights mounted in the bumper, but on mk3's these lights are on the ends of the light clusters, either side of the number plate.

87 would be a mk3, no question. The only difference on all but the earliest mk2s is the heater controls, anyway.

You can get fascia panels from eBay (and various other places), but I think the original style ones look much better. I probably have a spare here...

Any idea what it cost to post it to Norway? It would probably be very easy to find one on the scrapyard too, and won't cost more than 2-3£ i think.

I think we could call it £10 including postage. If you can find one locally, that's probably better for you, but the offer is there :)

Yeah, someone either had an early 'full front' radio fitted, or took the facia panel.

cheers

Yep, found a facia panel and installed a headunit powering the stock 340 speakers. Scary sound

I'm gonna need to upgrade this to some degree
