Can you buy these new from Volvo? Or does anyone have a spare from a bust box? Mine's toast and the box oil is long overdue for a change. I'll need a 4 post lift and some oxy-acetylene to get the original one out, but I'm not doing that til I have a replacement.

I'm not sure. Nowadays you seem to be able to buy less and less from Volvo. They used to be available, but goodness knows now.

I'll have a wander along. Just wondered if anyone knew before I drive all that way to be disappointed.

You could always give them a ring first

Asking for parts over the phone?! Did you learn nothing when you tried to get those mudflap clips MJ

They weren't much more helpful in person though...
When I was told that throttle cables for 1.7's were no longer available, I tried ringing another dealer to check up on them. They were very helpful and even gave me the part #

Ultimately, it's just a bolt. A fairly special bolt, granted...but yanking a spare and taking it to a fixings place should get you a replacement, if all else fails. Dare I say it, Halfords usually carry a fair supply of sump plugs, etc.

Bah! "part expired".
Magnetic drain plugs are still available at £4.10 each, do they expect you to need one but not the other?

obviously not
i think foggys right get a spare and take it to helfrauds or simular, and see if they have a suitable match,
i see one problem though...getting a spare.

I have a spare box sitting here. Do I detect that I might have a task on my hands?

Just out of interest, is the plug the same as on the bigger M4x gearbox equiped cars, isn't it the same inspection panel?

Err....good Q. I think so. We've got an M46 or two kicking around here, so I can have a looksee sometime.

I would be worth trying to find a suitable replacment. There must be something that is close enough to work.
