360 Petrol

My understanding is that I should run my 1985 360 gls (carb) on higher octane 97 petrol but doesn't need LRP. I've been running it on normal unleaded without any issues for a while as I'm not going to pay silly petrol prices. Is this causing serious damage if no pinking is present?

97 is fine for b200s (apparently). non-lrp or owt. i dunno about 95, depends how much the compression ratio has changed since it was made

You've tried the 95 on your '85 GLS?? You won't feel the difference but the engine's wear will be higher...

Will the engine wear be dramatically higher? I drive the car every few weeks and it probably does just 2-3000 miles a year. Going to the alps this year in the summer I took advantage of cheap French petrol and ran it on 98.

It's a fact that it's not good at all... Read the follwing topic. (it was about the B19 but it's the same for you, even if you have one the first B200 cause your GLS is from 85)

I thought as its the B200 it would be fine on 95, especially as there is no pinking
Thanks for the info, its only done about a thousand miles with 95 so it should be fine. Back to super now!

pff. it'll be fine on 95, the compression ratio wasnt changed, and thats the only reason for using higher octane fuel. 95 is fine in all b200s, so long as no turbo is involved

My owners manual says that min 96 or 98 (don't remember which one

) in GL. (B200K) GLT's (B200E) manual says that 95 min but I use 98 in both because of the turbos. I used to fill the tank with 99 but they stopped selling that few years ago.

OK, I give in
I filled it up with 4 star yesterday, what a differance to performance, I forgot how good it was
