is the 230e 16v? or 8? i want to swap and thought id go for the 230e 16v 155bhp or something like that, this engine was recomended on a search but can only find 8v info? wanted to know how straight the swap would be into my 360 glt, ie do i just have to bolt the engine in everything just wires in like the b19 before and then all i have to do is change the ecu.
thanks

B230E is 8v And B234 is 16v. If you are going for the B234 you'll have change much more parts than just the ECU. Ie. Inlet and exhaustmanifolds, engine wiringloom if you go for the B234s standard engine management. oil sump and pump.

I wouldn't call it straight swap. But its doable and in the end its not that hard and it takes almost same amount of work to swap a B230 engine. Also B234 is great engine. It pulls really well and to my mind it is one of the best engines which Volvo has produced

fair enough ill try and find a whole car and swap what have you over

bit hard to find tho those 16v glt in the uk, if i can't find a whole car but can get just an engine no loom will all the plugs match up guessing i just have to add a few more wires? really wish there was more info to read up on it

You'll need to strip the wiring out of the 740...the management systems are completely different. An 8v swap is much easier, but 16v can be done.
I'd start with a 2.3 8v bottom end and stick the 16v head on it. You'll need the cambelt tensioner from a Volvo Penta AQ171 (basically 2.5L B230 with a 16v head fitted). Some others fit too, but I can't remember what right now.
An 8v swap is a LOT easier, and will make more power with a cam and a set of carbs.

Not really...at least not right at the moment. I can probably get one fairly cheaply, though...
I have a 2.3 turbo bottom end (basically the same)...it's done a few miles, but it'll be cheap.
In a few months I may be fitting said turbo bottom end where currently there's a B230 8v...so that's another option...
cheers
