does anybody know where I can get the small wiper blades for the headlight wipers on my 340DL Please?

Volvo dealerships carry them but are v. expensive, I have tried GSF but the ones that they said would fit didn't, and Euro Car Parts have never had them in stock when I have been there, does anyone else know where you can get them at a reasonable price.

I've not actually tried it yet, but I was going to do as some others have suggested, and cut an old windscreen wiper blade to the correct lengths, which would then fit on as replacements. I'd imagine Volvo would charge plenty for these parts, so I'm going for the cheap alternative when I get time.

Thanks pete and Jimc. I had a go at cutting and old main screen blade up and fitted it in place of the old head light blade and it works fine
The secret is to very very gently prize open one of the `claw` clamps at each end, I say gently because you will see they can be so easily snapped off, the two SSstrips that are slid into the rubber blade have cutouts in each ens at both strips and these also can be broken at their weakest point but just be gentle at every stage. Next slide these two SS strips into the rubber on each side then angle one strip into position onto the `grip` that you didn't bend to remove the old rubbers ( at each end)
then twist the rubber with SS strips into the other two that you did `slightly` bend so that the said cutouts in the SS strips fit exactly. Now just bite the two together with pliers, but remebering you only need a very gentle squeeze ( Like your first boob encounter Remember ?)

Oh by the way, the rubber strips you cut should be checked that they're not corroded in that they will tend to tear along its length from either end if so. You've most likely had this happen to you on rubber wipers before.
I've blobed a bit of super glue on each end just in case.

I always thought that the headlamp washers/wipers were a bit of a gimmick, but after a long drive in the rain after salt being on the road they totally wipe off a film of dirt that collects on the lights nicely

No problem, I've been meaning to try it for ages, but have never managed to find time to sort it out, so thanks for the very useful step by step guide. I know how easily the parts snap, as I have replaced a complete wiper arm due to the plastic clip snapping. I hope to cut my replacement blades soon, as mine are hanging off at the ends, and I don't want the arm to scratch the lens cover with out the rubber blade on it.

Steve, I too thought they were a gimmick to make it look like you were getting something amazing as a standard extra on a GLT, however remembering my Fiat, driving at night in the winter, it'd get harder and harder to see, as though the lights were losing power with the dirt kicked up on them! It often required you to stop and clean it off, oh the joys of the luxury 360, no need to do that! Until I cleaned the car the other day, there has been a visible wiper mark on the headlamp lens covers, then a film of dirt around it! So they are extremely useful.

They weren't an amazing extra on a GLT at all - almost everything had them!

I managed to get an ok-ish set from the scrap yard, but they're only a stop gap. Good post John, and welcome - informative stuff there!

Having got fed up with murky windows and split wiper blades, I too have taken the plunge . again prompted by checking back on all the reciepts that came with the car I found one from a few years ago quoting £16.00 +vat for a set , Being a tight wad I rummaged in the shed and found two brand new blades . cut them down for the windscreen then used two good sections from the old windscreen wipers to make headlight wipers. In my case I found that one end of the headlight wipers slips out easily ,then if the wiper is split pull the rubber apart and the metal strips should just fall out . you only really need to bend the clip slightly in order to insert the replacement parts and then ,as said before , gently squeeze with pliers so it grips the strip it is only the end with the cutouts in the metal strips that needs bending .result , all new front wipers with zero outlay

I've done the bodge a wiper jobby, definately worth it!!! I've got a really thin wiper from somewhere, was about two foot long, and have had three out of it so far!

I cheked again this Motonet that sells parts for all cars.
New wiper blades for headlamps 300s 82--91 11.90 euros and 13.50 euros for MK1. Maybe these are available in your country too?

Of course it is much cheaper to use old windshield wipers

My headlamp washers are removed by previous owners, maybe I will find cheap working washers some day to install for it

I finally ordered a set of blades fro Euro Car Parts, part No. 485660070, they are genuine Volvo parts in Volvo packaging, and were £8.77 inc VAT. Expensive yes but less hassle that buying some blade material as I am out of old ones. These were a straight pull out push in replacement.
