well, problems is a slight understatement... i have recently replaced my diff in my 340....
after running the car for a good hour afterwards (sensibly) my gearbox started making some awful noise, like a whineing through first second and third.
can someone please tell me that its only a small bearing somewhere or something like that (i know its the first motion shaft).
does anyone know where i can find a gearbox?
thanks

Re: 1.4 gearbox problems
If you weren't so gen'd up mate I'd ask if you had filled up the diff oil!
Doesn't sound good. I don't know much about these yet but I'd be whipping it off again i think.

yeah, i think i'll have to. it's not a fun job when you live down a thin road with no driveway so you have to dodge the cars trying to squeeze past your legs...
again, if anyone has a gearbox i could pinch for a small price then that would be just swell

you just swapped the diff over between 2 gearboxes?
did you keep the crownwheels and pinions together as sets, not mix them? even if theyre the same ratio, theyll have different wear patterns.
did you set up the pinion backlash correctly with a dial gauge?
