unplug 4 way valve? CVT

Post by vein »

Hi,

I have problem with Volvo 340 CVT, while driving at normal conditions, engine goes to 4000-5000 rpm and stays in that way, releasing throttle even a little causes rapid slowing down.
I dont know what causes that problem, What would happen if i'll completely unplug 4 way valve from gearbox?

sorry for my english.

ps. It isn't my car, i'd like to buy this car, but i'd have to know if it's valve failure or it is caused by other broken part.

Regards,

if you completely unplug this mechanism, the car does 3000 rpm at that speed.

you will be better of finding the cause for this;

at one side of the 4wayvalve you'll find a brown and a yellow/green wire, put a voltmeter on this, when you have 12v directly on this valve there is something wrong in the electric circuit of the kickdown solenoid side.
- on the brake master cylinder you will find a 20bar pressure switch, there is a yellow and a red wire on this, connect the 2 directly together, check if you still have 12v directly on the 4way valve.
if you still have 12v at the kickdown solenoid, try below:
- on the inside of the car at the throttle cable, you'll find the other end of the yellow/green wire, disconnect it from the throttle pedal and link it to ground.
check if you still have 12v directly on the 4way valve.

- if you do still have 12v directly on the 4way valve, you'll need to take the black box at the base of the 4wayvalve mounting plate, unscrew it (2 screws) and deplug the 8 plug connector, open it up and take a close look at the 3 larger soldering islands, if one of them is cracked, resolder this contact and build it back in the car again.

if you don't get 12v constantly on the kickdownsolenoid, deplug the thick hose on the back of it, if this sucks constantly the valve insite the 4wayvalve has torn and needs replacement, easy job.

oh yes, and offcourse, check if the switch on the inside of the car is switched off:lol: it is on the center panel, between the front seats. has a square symbol with a diagonal stripe in it.
