If nothing else, she is running sweetly again, aside from it only lasting for a short time whilst the water falls out
What are 360 carbs like man?
in general.

Much bother?
Pops has managed to unearth a 360 GLE carb thats been in lock up.
So im gonna have a look round it, see if its worth recommision.

They are utter pain in arse, that is if they are acting up and it is not all that rare. Base warping, throttle shaft can become worn, if there is hesitation when applying throttle quickly then both above and also idle circuit can be malfunctioning even air passes ok when tested and when one applies throttle, response can be cut'n go instead of go.

When it is working it is perhaps ok, I don't really know, I have not seen one that would been working.

Oh yes and parts starts to be hard to get in here as Solex wen't out of business years ago.

Be really really happy that you don't have one

I think the B19A carb'd 360's aren't too bad. B200K - well, may as well buy a 1.7 - better on fuel and more economical.

What Mr P says, find out if it's a B19 or a B200. The the Strom's on the GLS make it a dream to drive, if I was keeping with the 1.7 I'd be chucking a pair of variable chokes on it now (I have a nice manifold sat around somewhere with some on ;)

Jasons got a B200K, and tbf, after sorting it it's been fine, but it will need sorting. B200K's are nothing like as good to drive as B19 or a 1.7 though in my opinion.

I agree with both above, B200K has Solex carb and those are what I have found out to be crap.

Only once I have driver B19A, car was worse than most at scrapyard, but even B19 poured blue smoke to cabin + it did look like James Bond's smoke screen, engine did respond rather well.

That is one of reasons why I'm constantly keeping eye of 300 with B19E, good those are rare, soon year has been passed and none I have seen on sale.

Thanks for the wise words fellas.
Its immeterial now, as ive just had a heart attack at the bank.
I have no money. Wheres all that gone?! Really should pay more attention to my spending.

This is not a good day.

And my clutch began slipping on the way to Johns unit this morning.
Sorry for the threadjack Chris, but im pushing on:
Coming up through 2nd and 3rd gear the revs are popping high but the speed isnt rising as quick as it was. Lagging very far behind. Seems ok off the line though? a bit juddery maybe.
Has anyone done a 360 clutch?
Ive got a full kit and new cable (cheers ebay! 99p clutchkit and £2.50 cable)
How much of a massive ballache is the change?

Argh unlucky dude... unfortunately the clutch change on 360's is a git... I think you'll really have to drop the exhaust, gearbox and torque tube. Not like 340's where you can get away with just taking the prop off :(

Indeed it is big job, did cost 500 in my local garage years ago.

Adjustment is under the car, that is at least in LHD models, you can try and adjust it a bit and see if that helps. Is clutch pedal lot higher than brake pedal? If it is clutch is indeed end of life.

Do you have Haynes? There is procedure roughly explained with some photos. I had scan of it, but looks like my ISP just deleted my whole account accidently...

Can Redblock clutches be pulled up on the cable like 340s? Pedal was high, but not as bad as my B14, that I just kept nipping the cable up every 6months or so

I have adjustment near bellhousing, there is long threaded thing and nuts to turn, it is driver's side of bellhousing in LHD model, probably passenger side in RHD as I would imagine bellhousing is same? Anyway that is under the car so one need to get car up to reach that, imo.

I had to adjust it as garage did set it wrong, it was crunching a bit and also slipping in spirited driving

It is a pretty major pain in the arse...but at least the kit was cheap. I suggest some burly labour to manhandle the box in and out, a biiiiig jack, and a large swear box. It's perfectly do-able in a day, but a faff. I had to put my driveline in and out 3 or 4 times doing the 343 swap, and I was thoroughly sick of it by the end!

I have to disagree with Jani's opinion of the B200K...I think his was just severely broken...and once they're broken, it's not trivial to put them straight. My silver 360 originally sported a B200K, and it combined bombproof redblock reliability with excellent fuel economy (for what it was). I recorded 52mpg over 400 miles once, and 45mpg on the magic trip computer averaging 70mph. It'll even spank a GLT off the line at Santa Pod...as long as the GLT is driven by a MX5-loving brummie ;)

The downside is that they're not quick for a 2.0...but I'd still probably have one over a B172. Probably. They have a nice tall ratio diff, which makes high speed cruising (at 'sorry officer' speeds) notably more relaxed than in a 1.7 or a injection 360.

cheers

James

I have every faith in the tallents of those fine men entrusted with the work.
Sorry, those still deciding weather or not to open the can of pain that is a 360 clutch appocolypse.
I shall, as is for the best, stay well out the way. I'd only become a target for all the swearing and hate.
Got a quote from my garage, just for a laugh.
£625 lobour costs if I suply all necisary parts.
that's not even funny.

I think someone told them what a "fun" job it was. Shall we start the bidding for "labour wars"....£100?

Alternatively, call a "cake tasting meet", and neglect to mention what needs doing to earn the cake

cheers

B200K needs some changes to get it work right, they put wrong cam and fueling equipment to it at factory

When proper alterations have been made, then it starts to be more like car engine.

My experiences are that B19 is more like that from factory (even it is not any better on power, just purrs more willingly), but both do lack of go, they are 2ltr units, surely they should have more power from that displacement (50hp/litre is certainly bit low) and when you have the power, then long diff ratio really pays off in terms of high speed.

£625 is a ripoff, I got all for 500 euros, parts and labour, sure it was years ago, but parts were expensive back then and our labour costs are often insane, compared to more civilized part of world.
Bidding wars ftw!
