Just wondered if anyone can think of anything that's NLA or difficult to get hold of that might cause trouble running one daily? I can't seem to find anything yet... all the NLA parts such as trim, panels etc seem ok the car in question, or at the very least repairable

NLA Parts : A problem?
Well it looks like I might be getting hold of a nice 360 GLS shortly with the B19A engine...

Anything NLA I've found here without fail. Maybe in 5 years time it might be more of a problem
Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
Theres things that make it difficult buddy, but it's still possible. You know what mileage I do in mine, and it's my only car still.
It's a redblock, so all servicing things should be fine. Throttle/choke/speedo cables can all be made up, as can brake lines, hoses etc. Just when you have to make things, you can't always have them ready to fit on the car as soon as you get home from work so it's there in the morning again.

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
Enginewise I'm sure you're on the safe side with the B19A. Funnily enough, the B19 waterpump (although probably also NLA at Volvo) is much more common than the B200 version which is getting increasingly difficult to source.
The radiator is the same as other 360s ...
Exhaust parts ?
umm ... anything else?
So far with the 360s I've had little trouble keeping them on the road. It was difficult finding PAS parts for the GLT though ...
With the 343 vario it's a different story - clutch bits, and the early-shaped exhaust downpipe weren't that easy to find.
Look forward to seeing it! What MY?

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
Thanks guys - this is what I'm hoping. I reckon I'll be doing 13-15k miles a year in it. I've checked things like waterpumps already too
Euro Car Parts still sells radiators, albeit "Low on Stock" and seems like the wheel bearing solution has been made elsewhere on the forum too.
And non pas should mean the steering parts are the same as 340's? I assume earlier 360's have the 340 style anti roll bar setup? Saying that I'm hoping it'll all be pretty sweet to start with, as it's only done 42,000 miles. Exhaust bits can always be custom with a Dai special manifold in worse case scenario
It's an '84 in silver, 5 door
Now, has anyone got some smiths gauges?

Anything that was used in 200-series Volvos (i.e. the engine) can probably be found for a long time. Because... there's this system called Genuine Classic Parts http://www.gcp.se/ but for some strange reason they have 200 listed and then forgot about 66 and 300 completely! And now they even have 700-series listed but nothing under it yet. Something tells me they'd want to forget about the 400-series as well.

The parts situation on the 200's is true. I'm rebuilding a gearbox for my grey car and was able to buy a pair of new synchro cones!!!

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
Radiators can always be recored... but it takes time again. Often much better than a cheap new rad if it goes to a good place too. Things like waterpumps scare me, some blocks you can locate a remote one but I'm not sure how the redblock is cast.

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
They didn't forgot 300 and 66, some members of the 300Power.com contacted the GCP and asked about the 300/66 situation and the answer was that some ancient deal Volvo had with Netherlands prevents the reproduction of parts because they can't get rights for the blueprints etc.. I think that's quite damn stupid, you would think that by now no one would care if parts are being reproduced by someone other for a car which doesn't even have original parts production anymore!nomead wrote:Anything that was used in 200-series Volvos (i.e. the engine) can probably be found for a long time. You can fit a water pump from a bigger Volvo, just fit a modern E-fan with it so the pump will fit. E-fan is a lot better than viscous fan anyways.

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
I've just been trying to source a new/replacement front valance and radiator for VFW. Radiator ok at at cost for new. Valance proving very hard (will end up making something). I went to my local dealer just to see what they said about parts. I've read on the forum about problems with parts so didn't expect to find much... and didn't. I've not run a 300 for 6 years till this year and can't believe how the parts situation has gone. It's like waking up to a bit of a nightmare
When I put VFW to bed in 2003 I think pretty much everything was still available, even a lot of bits for the very old 343 I still had at the time. I suppose cos it's 33 years since they started and 18 since they stopped production we can't expect much help now
My local dealer said they only see a couple of cars regularly now, and one of them will be my dads

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
Hmm well looks like no GLS for me, just come back from seeing it. Whilst on most parts it's a lovely car, there were a few issues that I just didn't want to go back to
- Small bubbling bit of rust on the inner rear arch by the little plastic plugs, didnt look bad but the soundproofing above it can trap all the moisture, and since the sound proofing is put on before the car is painted...
- Bits of rust on front inner wings, under batter tray and under washer bottle on drivers side
- Slight rust on drivers side sill - to be honest if the car wasnt silver I probably would've missed it, not really rust but just rust strains coming through from the other side
D'oh, really thought I was gonna go for it
Beginning to wonder if there are any 300's that dont need work anymore
This was by far the nicest one I've seen for a while

Theres one somewhere for you man.
Huntings half the fun.
Oh, and i think ive got one of those 300s. But it very late.............. and not very rare.
Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
No, there isn't. The only time you'll get one will be in 10 years time, when people have been using them as show cars and pretty much rebuilt them for BKV points.SteveP wrote:D'oh, really thought I was gonna go for itBeginning to wonder if there are any 300's that dont need work anymore

Re: NLA Parts : A problem?
It had a hole in the front inner wing and a potential hole on the rear, plus the sill seam was slightly split on the drivers side. Bad enough when I'm after car that needs minimum body work. The rust stains suggest it'll already be rotting from the inside out, it was a bit of an eye opener really as I think running a 300 as a daily doing 13k a year is a bit of a silly idea
