New Ukrainian Sill Jacking System

Post by volvosneverdie »

Since the Chernobyl episode, sales of car jacks have plummeted.

While the strength of toddlers seems to have rocketed.

Funny pic :-)

This is turning into a nice alternative to the "Best cars................ EVER" thread. Here're some pics I took in Romania in 2007:

New Finnish Thread Hi-Jacking System!

Post by nomead »

First: Turku, Finland January 2005. There was a slight flood in the harbour. There were warnings 1-2 days before the flood, "don't park your car here"... someone forgot

Again home town, October 2008. Someone did some nice stunt driving and the car ended up between armco barriers. City authorities knew about it but wouldn't touch it, because that road is state-owned. And the state road administration didn't know anything about it, so that car stood there for about 2-3 weeks.

Jackers, we are jackers, thread highjackers that is what we are

Sorry about tad large image, silver car did decide to 'hug' rear end of red car. City of Tampere.

This is bit of south from city of Tampere, near Viiala I believe. I think limit was 50 or 80kph, anyway that is very straight section of road, slight downhill, no ice possible that time of year.

This was sight I saw at one morning in city of Pieksämäki, trucker might been scratching his scalp for few moments before got trailer hooked back on:

I believe that you are missing one version, roofless model, I know I have seen several of those.

BTW, they start to sell Dacia here next year, kind of shows how low this country has sinked, soon they probably start making Trabi with electric motor, but only upper level workers are allowed to buy one

Atroch, love that photo of the Dacia lined street  I assume Dacia has got a bit of a monopoly in Romania ? :D. I remember the Renualt 12 from the 1970's/80's here. Always thought it was an oddly shaped car! It's a pity someone else didn't buy the 340 design when Volvo finished with it in '91, I'm sure it would have still been a good seller in countries where a simple, easy to fix car is still appreciated.

Exactly, it's easy to knock these cars with our well-kept streets, but for a Romanian farmer, a Dacia is the perfect car.

Just as a Trabi is the perfect car for my short drive to work ;-) I'd choose it over a 300 anyday, even if it's just because finding a place to park is a doddle ...

300 is very good on bad roads, also it has quite good load carrying capacity, even better with extra leafs that are simple to make by yourself.

Motor without timing belt is essential in such places, it is too expensive to maintain in areas where parts are not necessarily readily available.

300 Wagon would been really good for dacia to produce after 1991, it would suit very well to use they needed car for.

Is Trabi near to size of 66? I think that 66 or DAF 33 would be as usable for you Tom?

edit: BTW, I think that something like Trabi with electric motor would be one of most economical and well useful to majority of drivers here as majority drives something like 10-20km around big cities in a day. Then is rest of country where lives many people, but not majority and it is not uncommon to see 100-200km a day.
