Re: engine tuning questions??
B19 will safely make 137 @wheels.
Well, leastwise that's what mine made last time on the rollers. In my view that's as good as a clubman spec pinto. You just got to work harder than the Ford boys.
Find a good headman and free those gasses.
4 branch would help but mine runs stock manifold.
Lighten and balance flywheel and some 45's will help.Any decent cam company will custom grind a shaft for your chosen duration.Vernier will help dial it in.The one on ours is Ford BDA.
Bottom end is pretty resilient but not sure how thick the rods are.If they're not 13mm they sound like the ones you need.
Surprising how well a blueprinted motor will go,whilst still giving drivability,longevity..........

Re: engine tuning questions??
thanks for the help but i cant really afford a race spec build as im only 19 and an apprentice lol
i would just like some info on things i can do cheap and easily that will help a bit
im not expecting 9.000.000 bhp or anything i would just like a bit more power and a bit more revs
using preferably scrap yard parts, bits from other cars, etc
but quite cheap
i can spend a bit on certain things ie getting it set up or what ever
i have a set on dhla twin 40s sitting would it be worth putting them on?
i have read about k cams and h cams where can i find these? 740 of some sort maybe?
lightening and balencing of the fly wheel will be happening at some point
but im just curious what i can do for a bit cheaper
also will a 2.3 clutch fit on my car?
is there anything i can do to get 16v head to fit?
thanks

Re: engine tuning questions??
Treat the motor to Payne gaskets.
L+B rods and pistons,port the head,fit a cam,bolt on gobblers and smile.

Re: engine tuning questions??
Translation from Geordie to Jockanese.
Buy a full engine gasket set-make sure they are Payne brand sometimes marketed as Halls gaskets. They are the best.
Whip motor out.Remove rods and pistons, check bearings.
Weigh rods and pistons. As a start find lightest and dremel the other 3 to as close to same weight as possible.
Take the head and measure inlet and exhaust manifolds, match head to the sizes ofthe manifolds.Remove old cam fit one of your choice.
When you're porting the head try and get someone who's done that sort of work before to do it or atleast supervise.
Fit new cam belt.
Attach Dellorto's to engine.
Fit back in car.Relax.

Re: engine tuning questions??
That'll be Payen gasket set and not payne.
Old age setting in.
Victor Reinz certainly do make a lot of gaskets, but all I know is, the engine reconditioners/performance builders will only use Payen up our way.

Re: engine tuning questions??
2.3 is a simple bolt in job.
As funds are tight personaly all I would do is remove teh fuel injection. Fit 240 dizzy and ignition modul for no rev limiter and adjustablility. Get a manifold for twin webber/selex or dellorto carbs. Use a 240 GLT K or H cam and combine that with a well made exhaust system.
That will give you enought to smile about.

Re: engine tuning questions??
I have to disagree about carbs... it's simple but it's not cheap, not by a long shot. Especially when you already have fuel injection, with high pressure fuel pump and lines.
My money would go on aftermarket engine management such as Megasquirt and bolting on a turbo and 940 exhaust manifold, 13c turbo and custom exhaust. That lot should cost you sub £600 and give you close to 200bhp at 10psi. Carbs might get you 150-160bhp, but much less torque, cost a fair amount and will still also need a rolling road setup.
However, if it was a GLS do what Dai says

1989 - Volvo 360 GLT
1985 - Volvo 360 GLS
2008 - Volvo S60 SE Lux

Re: engine tuning questions??
well the rolling road tune i can get cheap either way.
how much is megasquirt and is it hard to fit?
