Loose Carb Jets!? WTF?! Update: Cutting out in Traffic!

Hey guys, well had a bit of an exciting day with Vince today :S Set out for work this morning and just as I was filtering from the sliproad onto the M6 the car cut out on me! F*ck! Not the time nor place to have the car cut out on ya! Managed to start it back up although it wouldn't idle managed to move it over to the side anyway, got out and popped the bonnet with nothing obvious started it back up again and it seemed to run and idle fine on choke tempted luck and ran it off choke halfway along the journey and it seemed fine again although start playing up a little again just as I managed to pull into work!
Finished work and time for the journey home! Drove it as normal and halfway back along the M6 I had the same problem again, got it running on choke and just got myself back home
So I get home and start poking about I can't believe how filthy this carb is and how considering it's location it managed to get so dirty! Cleaned it down a bit with carb cleaner anyway while I was on the hunt for air leaks located the idle solenoid and thought i'd whip it out and clean it up, went to undo it with the spanner and it was loose! Didn't need to even crack it off.......
Anyway takes that out and I gave it a good cleanup aswell as the electrical connector for it and refit it, I carried on poking around and thought i'd give my jets a blast of air to make sure they're blowing clear and WTF they wiggled about!!!!

I got a screwdriver down there and tried to tighten up but couldn't manage to do it. Can they be tightened with the carb intact and I they are just being awkward for me, or does it need to be taken apart?
Either way, I gave the car a try and it doesn't seem to be cutting out now so hopefully tightening and cleaning that solenoid should have cured it but obviously I do need to sort these jets out too! Any advice/tips would be very handy thanks guys!
P.S for reference it's a late B14 with a Weber 32 DIR (104-100 / 105-100 so Haynes manual reckons)
