Choke works, but not right...

Post by CBA »

Ok, I pull the choke fully out on cold morning, car starts on third to fifth revolution of engine always - only if you leave the choke fully out it will stall, if you put it halfway it will stall and if you push it fully in it will stall... You need to give it gas and keep it at 1750-2000 rpm or so for 20 seconds ish to warm it up, then it will run (though a little rough) on it's own.

Obviously the throttle isn't operating when the choke is pulled, how do I adjust it to factory settings - has it been put this way for a reason maybe? wont know till I know the adjustment... need the carb setup details if possible
(I have pretty old Haynes manuals, Mk1 Transit, Talbot Horizon, Citroen Diane, Reno 5 Mk1, 2 for ALL Ford Sierra (inc diesel) WILL SWAP ALL or some for a (or a couple of) volvo 340 (early - mines a 1985 1.4 GL) manual(s).

I'm in bolton - Want a real manual to work with not a pdf, will pay £15 if need be, tho' I am on a teensy weensy budget, I cant afford sandpaper right now to finish the wings
what I do have is skill and time, but no (carries attitude) bloomin manual

Plenty of real paper manuals on eBay, shouldn't be more than four quid a pop.

Cheapest auction price 2.51 delivered. Cheapest BIN five quid.

if the throttle isn't operated along with the choke valve on these webers, you'd be best off throwing the thing out the window and be rid of it

take the airfilterhousing cover off; pull the choke and see if the valve in the first barrel closes, if not the connecting rod of this valve on the right side of the carb has worked loose, you'll see what needs to be done if you take the entire airfilterhousing off

if the choke valve operates normally; a full carb service + engine (ignition, filters etc) service is the answer to the problem
