HELP..340 ovlov 1.8 16v clio engine on bike carbs

Post by rwdrules »

HEY GUYS, I HAVE A 340, (GRIFFO'S OLD ONE I THINK) AND ITS GOT A CLIO 1.8 16V ENGINE ON BIKE CARBS, THEY'RE GSXR 600CC BUT NOT INJECTION. BASICALLY IT RUNS TERRIBLY!!! ITS AT ABOUT 120 ISH BHP BUT ITS CAMMED UP AND HAS A STRAIGHT THOUGH AND STANDARD THEY'RE 140HP I THINK. THE CARBS HAVE TO BREATHERS ON THE TOP AND IN THE PIC OF THEM ON THE PREVIOS OWNERS CAR THEY WHEN TO THE ROCKER COVER SO THATS WHAT I DID BUT IT'S DRIBBLING FUEL INTO THE ROCKER COVER. WHERE DOES IT GO?????
i'LL UPLOAD SOME PICS LATER, BTW THEYRE UPJETTED FOR THE 1.8 APPARANTLY..
THESE ARE SOME OF THE PICS OF THE CARBS SETUP http://s64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/ ... e%20Volvo/
THANKS, ERIK

Not sure if it was Griffo's at one time i thought he only had the black one, but i am often wrong :)

it was however Winstons from here, who seemed to only keep it for a few weeks then sold it on, possibly to you. I know it doesn't help much but it sounds like it had running issues when he had it, maybe why he got rid of it so quickly after purchase?

If no one comes along with any ideas i'd suggest getting it down to a carb specialist and see what they make of it.

Here's the advert if you are unaware:

Have you thought about selling the carbs on and converting to injection?

i'm sorry i can't make much out of your first post but i'll have a go, for a foreigner that is really anoying to read :?

did it run ok before swapping the cam and placing the straight through exhaust?

the carb breather dribbling in the rocker cover isn't good but i very much doubt that is where a breather should go. in the engine there is overpressure escaping by the rocker cover breather; why would you connect a carb breather required for the float level to a pressurized feed?

my first bet would be to disconnect this connection and see what happens
second odd thing is fuel coming out of the carb breathers; is the fuel pump return line blocked? (or the return line behind the pressure regulator)

i would like to keep the carbs, and it ran the same before the cams and exhaust, th reason that i put the carb breather pipe in the rocker is thats the way it was on the other car before. i looked last night in a gsxr haynes manuel and the pipes in the top of the carbs are definately 'air vent hoses' . but where do i put them to??? they should go on the airbox of the bike. i tried a lower pressure pump and it did the same thing. the return is fine. could it be an issue with the carbs? thanks, erik
