So I bought some Leos...

...they look good, don't they?

They came with a free car!

The wheels and rear spoiler are both sold. The rest is either going to a new home (if one can be found), or getting crushed.

It's rusty. Very. All perfectly repairable, but lots of work. Underneath...not pretty...so far I've determined that it needs jacking point and sill repairs, plus the front valance attending to. "Cosmetically" it needs front wings, front doors (rears have been replaced, and are ok..ish), a section of the roof replacing (not uncommon on the older stuff)...and the most impressive and extensive A-pillar/scuttle rust I've ever seen on a 300...makes Nessy look good!
Image

I'm actually quite itching to repair the scuttle / pillars. I've helped a friend with a roof swap on another car this winter, and I've worked out how to repair this...

And the roof...
Image

So it's rusty, but it's a 1983 GLT on a Y-plate...one of the first...in sexy as hell metallic blue. Pick up a rust-free ghetto-spec 340, and set to it with a spot weld cutter...

So yeah...someone has dibs on it if they want it as a resto project...otherwise...await the part-out thread. I'll know in a few days which way it's going. The part out (if that happens) is going to have to be quick though...time is not on my side.

How many V3Mmers can say they've got two near-identical cars this rare...? My other, a 1985 version of the same car...same model, colour, number of doors...(just needs a bumper iron!)

cheers

Holy moly! That's some feisty tinworm right there! This will be the B19E, am I right? We need a chat mate.

All things are relative. If it was a P1800 or (to a lesser extent) an Amazon, you'd think you'd come off lightly.

Yeah, B19E. Breakerless ignition. The 118bhp version.

Talk we must. If you're game, a weekend of roadtrips oop north could well be afoot quite soon. I've got some movements with trailer to do around here, so that might work out well.

cheers

James

Very special rust! I hope it doesn't end up in the scrapyard in the sky though... cos that blue on a Mk2 GLT is bloody awesome. And a Y plate GLT is something pretty special. If anyone wants one in much better condition, I may still know of a guy who has one in Rugby

Been to the moon, geneticly modified sheep, built the Large Hadron Collider, but we still havnt found a cure for rust.

Scientists have absolutley no sense of priority.

Oh hold on... I recongise that car in the first pic

Also just noticed, your Y plate GLT doesn't have the stripes going up the bootlid

Chris...the inner skins are actually not as badly damaged as on Nessy...but I agree I was using a little poetic license ;) A few bits and bobs on the inside and the outer skin, and that would be alright.

That one in Rugby is pretty nice, Steve. This one may well have had a replacement tailgate at some point...or the one in Rugby has. I'm not 100% sure they always had the stripes, but I do seem to recall that 83MY cars got the lower-case "injection" badge.

I nearly took a dedicated picture of yours Steve...of the rust on the front wings...claiming it was the only pic I took ;)

cheers

James

takes on the car as a possible long term project.

Bitch, I'm sure I don't need to remind you how much your 343 is costing ;)

EDIT: Regarding the Rugby car, anyone interested? I'm pretty sure it'll still be there and can check it out if it's still there, I think he wanted about £100 though, it hasn't been driven for a good few years

Yeah, think you intimated as much.

Yeah, I took the photos... check them out theyll show the rust issues.

It's relatively tidy, very solid - the rust is only really surface deep, no idea if it runs, hasn't been started for a while, definitely needs transporting

Yeah i looked at the photos man, couldnt see much to be honest.
looked quite tidy. Rust wise anyway.

im going to look into shipping.
Id like to have it as a future project, but itd mean it sitting in the rain for a few more years.

Anyone else fancy it??
