Very interesting thread as I have been looking at options for the filters, hoses etc myself.

That Facet 43176 filter looks like it has good potential, I also would prefer a clear filter to monitor debris. I notice it has a 12mm outlet barb and 1/8 NPT inlet for screwing onto a fuel pump direct.
If fitting to a 360 (I think I have this right) you would have the 12mm barb piped to the tank and a 1/8 NPTF adaptor leading off to the pump as this replicates the flow direction when screwed direct to a pump.
It might work nicely with a 1/8 NPTF to 12mm elbow if you can get the clearance out the filter, thus avoiding a nearly kinked pipe to the pump as per the Baldwin filter setup. Might be trial and error getting the best adaptor solution, either some sort of direct elbow, or a combination of 1/8 NPTF to BSP straight adaptor and then you would have more scope with BSP fittings ?

The site Glencoeltd appear to sell the filter and also supply 12mm fuel hose with stated ID of 11.5mm which is very close to the tank outlet size you measured James. They do have some fittings but nothing to the exact size needed.

I need to get round to replacing the hoses in the engine bay, I did the one from the filter to the injection rail last year (5.6mm ID injection hose seemed correct..) but not done the other two. Can anyone verify the correct ID ?
I know there are various pipes at the tank that should also be checked/replaced. The whole tank set up for the 360 doesn't really lend itself to ease of maintenance/repair...!

Thanks for the info to date, very useful...

I know it's a bit of a threadjack, but hopefully it's all useful info.

Yes, that's what I was thinking (in terms of how to deploy the Facet filter). Interesting point about using an angled outlet. The original filter is straight, of course, albeit with one side (the outlet) off-centre (but not angled). Facet do a similar filter, but with 'exposed' barbs on both ends (opposed to one end being recessed, for connection to one of their pumps), but sadly not in 12mm. I suspect the 12mm bore could easily be reduced down (and back up again!) to suit a smaller diameter filter.

I have seen the Baldwin filter described as a screen / strainer type (with wire mesh inside) rather than a fully-blown filter. That effectively makes it the same as the strainer you tend to get on the inlet to an in-tank pump. The under-car pump has an integral filter in the inlet, for what it's worth. Mine was blocked with varnishy gack!

Threads like this are worth their weight in gold when it comes to searching out information, far better than FB !

Certainly think you are on to a good solution with the Facet option, if suitable fittings can be adapted then it should work.
I think you might need a short straight adaptor before a 90 elbow to get out of the filter but that would be trial and error.
I see on Ebay you can get 1/4 BSP male elbows with 12mm barbs but I am struggling to find 1/8NPT female to 1/4 BSP female.

Yes I have seen the Baldwin noted as a strainer also which will take out the large particles but any fines will go through the pump and clog up the engine bay filter quicker. I guess it will still work ok but it would be nice to have the Facet option where a quick glance can give you the filter status.

If I find any more fittings options will update on here...
Cheers

My only slightly worry with some of these is...how thin is the centre bore? If the originals are for 12mm pipe (9-10mm ID on the unions?), I'd not want to go too thin with any adaptors.

Its a good point, small risk of fuel starvation through bore restriction. Not having a spare original filter handy to check, any chance you can measure the original bore ID of the inlet and outlet of the Volvo filter ?
I imagine the pump will have the duty available to push through a slight restriction, at the end of the day it has to push through a range of filter states (from clean to badly needing changed) which will add restriction as debris builds up.

I think I am going to track down some new injection hose for my engine bay and do the bay filter as well while mulling over the options for the pump filter. The last owner of my car apparently changed the filter but you can never be sure...

This is the pre-filter I'm talking about. I need to find my spare original (so will measure it when I do!), but I suspect it'll be ~10mm ID, as it fits 12mm hose.

I've decided to sell the 360, I have a 1986 760 turbo saloon that is crying out for a restoration.

Good luck with the sale! Looks great. Got plans to list it on eBay, etc? Environments like that (and classic auctions) seem to be where the buyers with big money are lurking.

cheers

Thanks James, I've stuck it on car and classic too where it has had over 100 views in less than a day.

I will be taking some new photos next week and listing on ebay as an auction as there hasn't been much interest yet. I will probably put it back on the original wheels too.
