such a serious problem. After all, the youngest cars are now 12 years old, and there's only a
few serious spots on these cars. They can be repaired by a good welder. The real problem is,
the cars aren't worth that much, so everyone buys a car without the rust and scraps a rusted
one.
Compare this to an MGB or a Volvo 544, for example. They are completely rebuilt from total
wrecks, because the car is worth more.

You're right when you say that the Volvos 300 can be
repaired but it doesn't happen because they aren't worth that much... I've experienced that,
my Volvo dealer wouldn't repair rusted "members? is it the right word?" ("balk" in Dutch
and "longeron" in French) According to my Volvo dealer, the car had to go to the scrapyard!
I was scandalized!! Finally I have found another dealer and it was OK for +/- 800 €
I know cars (from 87 or 88 ) COMPLETELY damaged and on the contrary other models (83 or
84) without rust, it's unfair!
How to prevent the problems? Which parts were damaged on your Volvo 340? And how did
you fix it? We'll talk about that in this topic!

The hollow section between the front wheels (the bar on which
the radiator rests) is rotten on my car. As my car is mainly a cheap mode of transport (I'm more
interested in large cars) I don't think I'll fix it, but just will see how long it gets it's new APK
(Dutch MOT). But my garage said it wouldn't be a problem to fix, if it was rotten to much.
Hollow sections like that should be dinitrolled to avoid rust like that.

First sorry of my english, I don't quite know all part names.
I have rust in passenger door, actually I have hole in there too, surface metal has separated from bottom door, luckily it is not visible, yet
I have had rust in a bottom cup of front springs (bottom of spring is kept at place with that part)
Then bar that helds transmission at place got rusted, now it is new too.
Few holes at bottom of car that are now ok too, then some minor cosmetic rust spots in trunk, wheel arces, hood, and few in side of car
<- So not very bad, it is in that picture.

It could be interesting to make a summary with all the places where rust can appear, if you want to check the whole car. Here is a first try, with the (good) experience I have now...
