After market Cruise control

Post by Tero Huikko »

Hi,

Has anyone installed an after market cruise control on 300?
Recommendations? Experiences?

www.summitracing.com sells Audiovox CCS-100 unit for app. $100 and that's cheap.

Andy's fitted a WAECO unit bought from eBay (shipped from Germany I think):

The seller doesn't have any listed at the moment. After my recent speeding ticket I think I need one of these too...

Yep... what Ronnie said!

I found it real useful for regular long-distance trips. It's not perfect; the soloniod doesn't move quite far enough to open the throttle fully so you can lose about 5mph on a really long steep hill, but usually it's just as good as a factory fit in a modern car.

If you have any questions, give us a shout!

Well, if the others will let you...

Yeah, it was dead easy really, for anyone with basic mechanical knowlege. The instructions were fairly helpful, and most of it is common sense, eg. making sure the magnet is close enough to the sensor, etc.

There are of course loads of different makes out there, a session on ebay should throw up a few, but mine (the Waeco one) seems to do the job adequately. I predict that the others would be similar to set up though.

The original thread (ronnie's link above) explains the principal fairly well, for me the most time-consuming aspect was trying to find suitable locations for all the bits, I spent a while looking for a spot on the driveshaft which isn't affected too much by suspension travel when tackling speed bumps. The whole lot took me... I'd guess... about 3 hours of fairly leisurely-paced action. That's with a good selection of tools and a pit for getting amongst the underneath, all of which helped.

Good luck, let me know how you get on...

Cheers
