Foglights restoration

Post by Duvel78 »

Hello guys

I removed months ago the foglights of the GLT (some moisture in one of the foglights), so I decided to open them, clean them and make it totally waterproof with silicone.

I thought it was maybe interesting to share some pictures.

Firstly, it's good to know that there are 2 screws for each foglight, and of course very very very rusted on that place. It's sometimes nearly impossible to unscrew them and the temptation is high to smash up the plastic surrounding (what I did  but I had one spare)

The stupid screws... Use new screws after that and don't forget to put some grease on it

After that, separate the 2 elements: the one with the glass and the other with the reflector. For that, push very carefully on the 10 clips.

The 2 parts:

If you decide to remove the reflector, just pull it and unscrew totally the adjusment screw.

Here is what happens when you wait too long with a broken glass...

And here is the result when they are clean inside, much more shinning!!

And finally, somthing funny, there are 2 parts number for the cover. It's written in german and I don't really understand the diffrence, one is with a "punching", the other not... If someone can explain me that :D

Use silicone when you put the foglight together for a good waterproofness!

That's it!

lochung means 'punch hole' - maybe the hole for the screw in the casing?

you can make it even better by adding a protective cover in plastic (perspex?)

if you make this so that it follows the shape of the front beam nicely, it looks much, much better on a front/side view.

also, the glass is protected by the plastic, easy to replace and another barrier for moisture.
