An LM2903 appears to be a comparator (and readily available), while a 74C74N is a dual D-type flip flop (and again, fairly well available).

Yeah, I work in the electronics industry (as a purchaser, even!) and I can say that neither of those is particularly hard to get. In fact I could say they're pretty run of the mill stuff. The 74C logic series is getting a bit outdated but they're still readily available.

Hmmm, don't remember Foggy's board having a 2903, first google for that finds a supplier though so win.
As nomead says, 74C isn't that common now, but from memory can be replaced with HC? I think the voltages are all the same, just the HC is a higher speed version that replaced it.

I'll make some tests with my kit this afternoon, cause I'm not sure it's working.
Do you have pictures of your board Chris? Mine is definitely for the 300 series, maybe yours was for the 200 or 700?

Foggy will know, I've borrowed it from him! Havn't had it apart since I moved, so my memory might be failing. If I get some time later I'll have a nose again, otherwise, if it's the same as yours, it'll be worth sending off to somewhere like PCBPool to get some boards made up.

I wonder now if there is a member with a working computer for the 2 liters engine with injection! I know Foggy has one for the carb version, but for the injection?

The biggest problem is that 74HC maximum operating voltage is 6V while 74C can work up to 15V - I don't think that the 12V in the car has been dropped just for this one chip.Chris_C wrote:As nomead says, 74C isn't that common now, but from memory can be replaced with HC? Ahh, as I said I thought HC were the same operating voltages. Hmm, guess it's worth seeing if we can get C's before hunting out replacements.

Argh, I wasn't able to check the injection box cause the display wouldn't work
But I found the problem, the previous owner damaged the wires. You must be VERY VERY careful when you turn the display on the socket, don't make it too many times or too hard cause wires inside break. See the picture, very big mess, 5 wires broken.

After a quick and temporary repair, I only tested the best location for the computer. I really hesitate to put it near the glove box as described in the fitting instructions, I think it's very far. Maybe near the instrument panel? But it's a bit hidden by the steering wheel, or I don't see the engine temp gauge
... I don't know!

I got my interface (which is on loan to Chris for copying) from Adam (340GLT) years ago. It was supposedly a warranty repair unit (i.e. faulty) from his Grandfather's (or uncle...? a relative, anyway) garage, but he thought I might like to play with it.
My kit (as most did) came with a carb fuel flow meter. The NOS kit I sold to Mick (Redline) also had the carb sensor rather then the EFI interface.
cheers
James

Volvo owners... inbred... never! Aymat, if I were you I'd have it glovebox side as long as it doesn't foul the opening, I'd be worried the second would get in the way of spirited drivingfoggyjames wrote:I got my interface (which is on loan to Chris for copying) from Adam (340GLT) years ago.
