Door handles

Post by magnumpi »

Basically my mates are slowly destroying my 340 for me, nice lads that they are lol.

I say this as one is incapable of putting a seatbelt on without twisting it, to the extent it was so twisted i took the rear panel off to sort it, but now can't get the panel to fit tightly against the glass again, plus i broke the clip to hold it on

Then today as it's a non central locking car as i leant over to pull up the lock nob thing my mate pulled the exterior handle at exactly the same time! Now the handle won't work from outside, but will from inside, bugger.

I really don't want to change the lock as i have matching barrels all round but is this a common problem and repairable or totaly kippered?

TBH i've not even checked yet as it was dark when i got in, but any info is much appreciated and will let you know how i get on tomo. :D

Cheers

hi you just need another handle....the barrel is easy to change so you can keep the original lock

It *may* be one of the coat hangers has come off, you'll need to take just as much apart as if you are changing the handle though. Employ a small child if you have one, normal sized hands will get cut to shreds...

+1 for disconnected coat hanger links. Or there's the possibility that a piece of the handle has snapped, which happened on my 60, resulting in the door working from the inside but not outside. Like an inverse child lock.

Spot the difference:

I'd still say dislodged coat hanger bits though.

Dam it :( as suggested it's not the easy fix, the handle has snapped like in the picture above!

If anyone has a handle local to London or the SE i'll be happy to take it off your hands for a small fee

*edit* Just re-read it and you wants a NSF. I have one and I'll look for it tomorrow. I have to pick the right one from a choice of 3 so i'll be messing about with keys. LOL

Cheers for the help guys.

A rear handle would be quite funky, as long as the driver one never breaks, but then i suppose i could always climb in through the boot

Just a quick one, how are the handles held in place? looking at the one up there i can't see any bolt/screw holes anywhere.

Are they easy to get out, going to a scrappy tomo and just going to cut the back of the door open with tin snips for access, just wondered what tools i'll need to get them out?

* Edit: Excuse my blindness, just noticed the threaded bit on the top pic so i guess they are bolted in

Thanks
