No problem guys, and cheers James for sorting them out for us. We're first in the queue for econ gauges now, surely? That sensor was definitely dodgy, but now replaced! Yet another different wiring loom on Micks 340 redline! The space connectors were there, taped up by the steering column, but they were female spade connectors, and so are the connectors on the end of the wire to the sensor! Doh! So I added the wires I took from my saloon, with the male spade connectors to the white plastic connector block instead. If only they were all the same with a connector ready and waiting like I beleive all GLT's are, under the air filter box at the front!

A-n-o-t-h-e-r wiring scheme? Crikey...I'll have to starting taking them right from the pins again (as with first couple of sets I took - including my own ones)!

Yes, I think you guys probably are at the front of the queue....bad news for me, but only fair  What I really need is two people who just want temp gauges - no econ! Or two broken temp gauges...

I do have two econ gauges, but both are moderately broken. One pretty much works - just badly calibrated (well...it's slightly damaged, so no magic fix), and its yours for cheap. The other is totally dead...nothing...nada....but looks fine. Normally they stop working properly (as with the first one I mention) due to a crease in the 'bellows', which is very highly visible. This is why I have two spare Temp gauges....

I might have a source on a working econ gauge, but I'll have to get back to you on that.

cheers

would a temperature gauge pointing well over +40 constantly indicate that

1. the sensor is dead
2. there isn't a sensor

??

no sensor = -40

could show the sensor is dead, or the circuit has a short

If it's the same as the temp/pressure ones...
-40 = open circuit
+40 = short to ground

cheers

Oh while on this topic, on the blueline, if i put a sensor on the temp guage when the ignition is turned on the guage just twitches and stays at -40 any ideas?

Either dead sender, or bad wiring. Try measuring the resistance of the sender with a multimeter.

I suppose i can try the sender of the 1.4 cuz i know that works, its ironic how i pinched it from the blueline when i was just going to have some parts from it, not the whole car but hey!!!

Hmm...since ground and 'signal' run together in the 'loom', i'd bet on the two wires touching somewhere. Try bodging a single wire from gauge (black/white terminal) to the sender, then other sender terminal (order not important) to a ground point by the sender. That's the ghetto way of wiring the gauge, and will do for testing the loom.

Alternatively, whip the loom out, and do a resistance check between the two wires using a multimeter.

cheers
