fitting voltmeter into gauge cluster

Post by 360beast »

Does anybody know if it would be possible to fit the VDO 2/300 series voltmeter into the gauge cluster where the economy gauge goes?

I'd imagine it'd be easier to put a 400 series one in there and move the pin across from a 300 temp or fuel to make them match? I've never tried either mind.

I thought about using a 400 series but I don't like the look of them.

It's al possible, you just have to make it fit.

This is with a 440 oil pressure gauge.

This is with the shift indicator moved to the right side.

I think this is the best solution, almost like it's ment to be there. And available in different specs (oil, turbo, volt, etc.)

I should have said the only place for it to go is the economy gauge slot

I've got an OEM 300 series VDO oil pressure gauge and 240 turbo gauge to go in the centre console (just waiting for Logan360 to make fibreglass replicas)

I think the 400 series gauges don't suit the rest of the 300 series and I can find plenty of 2/300 series VDO voltmeters for sale and if I can't afford them from America then VDO sell new gauges that look very similar for sensible prices.

But you have answered my question Joris thank you :)

The BMR 360 has 50mm Volvo 240 gauges.

About the shiftlight, They are only fitted to 360's with the b200k (2 liter carb.) engine. And are controlled by some black box next to the left topmount in the enginebay. I've tried to get it working with the LH 2.4 injection system because the ECU has the connection for the shift light, but that didn't work. You need some rare Volvo 240 relay and throttle position switch if I'm right.

shiftlight is controlled by the Renix, not by the black box lh side of engine bay; that's purely fuelcutoff system

That's what I want to do, except remove the casing from the gauge so it sits flush like the rest of the gauges.

turns out my ideas aren't so orignal after all. I'm getting a fiberglass pod made for a boost gauge for the ashtray hole.

Did you use the bezel from a 240 VDO gauge?

Hi beast.
Yes mate. Widened the centre a little. Had to put a hole at the back
of the ash tray hole to bring the wireing in. Wired it to the ignition
so as not to drain the battery and the light bulb to the light switch.
Cheers Mark.
