Who didn't notice the wind noise problems when you're driving fast on the motorway... I was always thinking about the solutions to reduce that noise and now I've discovered something VERY interesting... When you study the design of the Volvo 300, you come to the conclusion that there are sharp elements totally "non-aerodynamic", and one of them is...
And what a surprise today, after reading for the xxxxxth time my Volvo brochures, I've seen something that I didn't notice before...
There is no doubt that there can be a noise improvement with that little plastic part. Has anyone ever seen that on a Volvo 300, or more info about it? I really want to install that but it's not in the options catalogue...

Havent seen them but like and want some!!! As there is about as much chance in finding some as me buying a FWD ford i will prob end up making some from Fibre glass!!
Cheers Adam
That's quite a discovery Aymat!! I'd really want them too. On the dutch forum there has been a discussion about cutting that trim of the car to reduce noise at high speeds. Obviously that is NOT the best way.
I'll ask at the Volvo dealer, may be he knows something about it.
I'm going to place an 'asked' advert on some website right away

The only problem with cutting the roof gutters off is that when you open the door after its been raining you wil get wet!! Although i think it would look very nice!!!

Yeah we can call it as a discovery cause I didn't notice that before... (and I would never remove that trim...)

One of my devious plans for Nessy is to fold over and smooth the gutters, as I have no doubt that they make a significant contribution to the wind noise. You may notice that later 940s have that section flattened against the body...I can take a piccy if required.
Once the car is running nicely and the audio is finished, making it QUIET is the next big project.
That's an interesting discovery, I've tracked down two noises that are in my new GLT. One is the air vent whistling at certain speeds due to the airflow, might be a leaf stuck in there. The other is the tailgate latch out of adjustment, so it rattles badly over bumps. But I've been thinking about sorting the gutters for some time, it's certainly something to look for, but before now, how many people have been looking there for anything different, as most never knew they existed, and the blend in rather well!?! At least the sunroof is quieter in this GLT, but a wind deflector might be nice.

If you want to make your hatchback silent, you also can fill up the spaces between the skin and inner structure in the boot. Behind those plastic plates there's a lot of free space. Fill it up with that yellow construction foam. (als ge het nie meer wit, purre en kit!)
Leather, leccy windows and mirrors, snowcap, foglights, open air filter, black roof upholstery. What more do you want? >a 2.3 turbo!
Yeah, I was thinking of testing first using tape. I'm pretty certain that they do help wind noise, hence why hefty gutters are a thing of the past on modern(ish) cars.
One big problems with the sunroofs is the seal. It's not there to keep the rain out - it's an acoustic seal - so if it's shot, what dya expect?! I'm working on that one myself...
