modulating speedometer

More instrument troubles and I
haven't even attacked my faulty odometer yet! Yesterday my Speedo began to modulate at
around 60km/h - the needle wavers badly and indicates a speed somewhere between about
50 & 70 km/h! Unfortunately the police often check the lovely winding road to my house,
so knowing my speed is quite important (limit on this section is only 60 km/h sm32
)
It has done this a little before, but only occasionally and never so badly. It seems to stabilise
again at around 80 km/h. Does anyone know what it could be? I assume something
somewhere is sticking slightly. Would it be the instrument itself or should I replace the speedo
cable?
I could just drive everywhere above 80km/h I guess!

you may try to lubricate it, but the cable
replacement will be better...

This could be connected to odometer problem. If the gears
skip or are broken, this could affect the rotation of the cable.
My suggestion is, fix the odometer first, then replace the cable if necessary.

I have the same problem on both my 340 and 345 GLS.
The needle swing and make a little noise. It happens more when the weather is wet!!!
I have no answer yet, I'll try to fix it one day.

That's the solution! sm54
I suggest you to check the part of the cable near the wheel because this part can be a little bit
rusted or dirty. So clean the cable and then lubricate it.
