Fitting Central Locking and Electric Windows

Post by J340GLT »

Hey

I know Chris had something about fitting one of these on a 340 without it?

How difficult is it if you've got a donor car with it on it?

Is it worth investing in a universal central locking kit rather than a Volvo one, as its quite cheap and saves all the hassle?!

Thanks

Jay

ive been thinking doing this... as far as i can see the universal ones are pritty similar. plus if you get universal u can have a distance locking and opening thing with alarm < imo its worth it for that

and ive also seen universal electric window kits on ebay

Worth a look and it may be cheaper than a doner car its also new so may last longer  but fitting may be less straite forward :?

Cheers

Electric windows are easy... I've got the pictures for a how too guide here (well, between me and Steve_P we have), we did it to Fake in an afternoon with a strip down and refurb of the motors and gearboxes. Worst thing is getting the wires through the door snake, I still need to be in a good enough mood to want to try the other side... but it's getting hot, and passengers have been complaining of late ;)

Central locking doesn't matter if you use an OEM set or not, the drivers door has a switched solanoid, it''s just not connected, so to make it remote central locking you just wire up that solanoid. I have done it too Kar. Another of the current projects on the bench is seeing if it's possible to refurb the central locking motors, soo many are knackered.

As Chris said feeding wires into the door will be trickiest part, theres a bit of a technique in getting the mechs in the door - but you'll soon figure it out. All the mountings are there already. The only real thing to note is you wont get the mechanism in the door with the motor attached, but thats pretty obvious.

I *believe* we did come to this agreement a while ago, but I havn't checked VADIS.

And do yourself a favour, and remove the gearbox and motor with the 3 bolts, not the motor alone. The 2 torx bits holding the motor onto the gearbox are a pig to get at when in the door.

No you didn't, you started months ago and still haven't finished!

Remind me again how long ago it was you took Fake's doors apart to do that...

That easy, probably easier than the 3 bolts - but if you dont need to take the motors out then undo the 3 bolts. The motors can be a pig to get back into the gearbox.

When your talking about the mechanism your talking about the electric windows right?

So how about the central locking that easy or not done by anyone?

Chris, the wiring for the electric windows were taking from another car?

Cheers

Yup, electric window mechs. The wiring I just had the plugs, and soldered up a loom myself, was much quicker than pulling everything apart to unthread the orig (plus, Steve pulled it from the scrappies for me!)
