Driver's side window

Post by DeKay »

This could be a very big problem if i don't get it fixed sharpish!
My driver's window is insanely easy to open, that is to say, one can open it from the outside with very little effort!
When I'm driving it at a any speed, it sometimes manages to shake itself open slightly (enough to put the wind up you, so to speak), and if you open it more than an inch, it just falls down.

They are manual windows and the winder works both ways, and spins when it falls down, it just wont hold the window up/closed

Any ideas?
Dave

I have the same problem.. Drivers windows sometimes drops about 5cm when driving. And you cannot get it up. It just makes horrible rattle and the windows bounces a little no matter how much you spin the winder. I managed to get it up by lifting the glass by hand and jamming the winder. Haven't had time to look whats wrong with it. (Well actually the real reason is that it has been raining for couple days now and it is cold so it's not nice to do anything out there :D )

take the trim panel off and have a look - i would imagine that there is someting you can tighten that will make both raising and lowering of the glass harder - tighten and your problem will be solved

:D This is an easy one. What you need is a device called (in engineering) a skutch. These can be supplied F.O.C. or engineered yourself with some simple instructions.

It sounds like the teeth on the winder have worn at the end.

The most wear that window winders get is usually at the end of the gears because windows are often opened just a little bit to allow some ventilation. If the car has been owned by a smoker this is especially true. As a consequence only the first part of the mechanism is used causing more wear there than anywhere else.

The solution is simple - get another winder mechanism!!
