Hello guys!
I'm at work and of course I don't have the access to the VADIS that I have home...
I got a stone on the windscreen, it's broken and I need to change it. I have found a company for the replacement, but they want to use the same seal!! I want to change it (I think it's better, isn't it?)
I called a Volvo dealer, the part is expired (of course), there is one garage that still have one but they are not sure about the compatibility of the seal. They told me there are 2 versions.
The one I could have is 3296997; my question is easy: is it the right part number for a '87 360 GLT??
I need to know it asap, thanks in advance for the replies!!

Afternoon Aymat,
Looks like you can get the wrong one!.
3296997 is listed for the 340 Basic & L models. For the GLT it seems you need 3285940. (from memory the difference is the "slot" for the trim mouldings - I seem to think one model didn't have a trim strip at all)
I guess you have to compare the one you can get with what is on your car.
Mac.

Ahhh! Thanks Mac!!
Yeah I think there is no trim at all on the seal for the basic 340... But if we think about it good, what's the difference the seal with black trim for GLT and a normal black seal without anything?
Visually it's quite the same if both can fit! Would it say that I can use both in this case?

Hey Aymat. I've just had my screen replaced. I had the option of a new seal, they'd ordered one along with the new screen. The fitter strongly advised me to keep my old seal. As he pointed out, the new one had been sitting on a shelf, coiled up for 10 years and was brittle and deformed and the one I had on the car was in pretty good shape.
Something to think about.

There's no doubt that the seal will fit - the screen dimensions are all the same. I agree with your sentiments about the looks and if you're not worried about keeping everything absolutely standard - then a good seal (even without a black trim you can't see) is better than the old "correct" seal that may well be brittle and leak.
Looking at it logically - if the old seal can't be re-used you don't have a choice, and if the seal could be reused (but is not perfect) than keep it "on the shelf" with it's trim and the car could be returned to standard later if you choose. In any case keep the trim as you may pick up a new "correct" seal in the future. What is certain is that after a few years - reusing an old seal is never the best way. Windscreen fitters tend to use lashings of sealant which never looks the part.
All the best - Mac.
