Im gonna start going 35 back 32 front.
Re: Tyre Presure
In a 4x4 you'd have less pressure so you have more traction but car tyres fall off the rim too easily if you don't pump them up. I learned the hard wayvolvosneverdie wrote:Off roads less pressure surely?Speedy88 wrote:Oh and remember if you're going offroad or fancy jumping your volvo, make sure it's up to at least 45

Good info there dude.
It's always preferable for someone else to learn the hard lessons.

I've got to add that a 340 is one of the best non-off-road cars when off-road. Potholes? Logs? Rocks? Trees? No problem! Take that nature.

Except the vario, or at least not with a transmission shield that's not properly mounted. Don't ask me how I found out...

30 - 32 psi is what I've always run on and works well for me.

Re: Tyre Presure
Long, with matched tyres the pressures do make a huge difference, but to the extent I run different pressures depending on the driving. Yes... yes I'm that sad
Start with the pressures written on the door, then work a few psi above and below and see what you like. If you can't feel a difference, don't worry, be happy, and go for the same ratio as the standard values.

Re: Tyre Presure
I think the official figures are 28 front, 30 back - but I always run mine 35 all round. No problems with uneven tyre wear and handles nice and quick that way. Need decent rubber to make it work though.

Re: Tyre Presure
I had my fronts at 40
until today.
I thought I was going to come of the road the whole time Ive driven it over the past few weeks. It wasn't fun in the snow at all, so I didn't drive it for over a week. Now its down to 30 it felt much more grippy, oh, the backs are at 27 because Im an oversteer novice.
Are you meant to multiply the factory pressure by the factor you've increased the wheel by to work out the new pressure?
Ive never been sure on this. I have 175 55 15s on the front and 185 55 15s on the back.

Re: Tyre Presure
I'm surprised so many are running off-spec. I would suggest the reason you are finding 1 or 2 PSI makes a difference that the gauge is inaccurate. I find 3psi difference between gauges quite common, even paid for pump gauges which really should be calibrated but they don't state their accuracy so how are you supposed to know? High pressure so make the car fell quicker but will give you less grip.
I have had various decent gauges over the years and generally find that the 27/30 is the best for what ever tyres for grip. If you find pumping up gives you more BHP then you should be fitting different radius tyres or narrower tyres. The point of the cold temp setting is to make the running temp on the motorway right so your tyres wear evenly and you have the full contact patch. High cold pressures will lead to wear in the middle of the tyre, but you may not notice if you only do short journeys.
I've experimented alot and put in alot of motorway miles aswell as many fun miles, I find 30 is right for the back for grip and even wear, but always got corner wear on the front outer edge, despite all attempts to eliminate it. Having said that my 940 has the same problem so maybe I just corner hard.

Re: Tyre Presure
I've not found a way to stop this either. The only time I've found running higher pressures benificial is on stock 175/70 13's on autotests, there I did get a lot more grip, but the same trick doesn't seem to work with either 14's or 15's with less side wallRide_on wrote:I've experimented alot and put in alot of motorway miles aswell as many fun miles, I find 30 is right for the back for grip and even wear, but always got corner wear on the front outer edge, despite all attempts to eliminate it. Check out this thread http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... f=8&t=8610 which shows the original door stickers with the recommended tyre pressures.
<'79 cars 24 / 29 (1.7 / 2.0 bar)

I'm surprised at the "24 for the front" recommendation, that's almost flat

Re: Tyre Presure
I have front and rear at 2.5 bar (= 36.3psi ) as Anjo said. But that is with 13 / 14 inch (winter / summer)
