Dude, seriously man you f*cking crack me up lol! I read your post wrong obviously and thought you meant the restrictor valve WAS the T-peice on the rocker! F*ck i'll get in the bin!!!
Hes ready.
He Knows what he needs...................
And there he goes!
Ecxellent form, one half twist on the way in,
A grab, and a perfect dismount.
Didnt even break a sweat.
that will take some beating.
Anywho! Just cut the old hose open and retrieved the little valve, I am absolutely amazed that this tiny bit of plastic can be the decider to a car running or not! C*nting thing! I'm not tatting again tonight now though, i'm gonna fit that into the new hose tomorrow and see how things go. Problem is I forgot the cars original carb settings :S So i'm going to have to have a go tuning from Webers base settings and get it fine tuned when I get my hands on a colour tune or i'll just book it in to be rolling roaded or something.
Volvodspec: I really can't thank you enough mate

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
Hmm... is the restrictor easy to fabricate? Like taking a cylindrical block of plastic and drilling a small hole in the middle, then sticking it inside a new vacuum hose? Because I think mine is missing that bit, and as a result, the engine runs like utter crap when the valvecase ventilation hose is connected. I'd check tomorrow but there's a lot of snow coming again...

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
basically, it's just a plug with a 0,5/1mm hole in it.. so if you can create something like that that needs to be forced into the corresponding hose; you're done

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
Yer well I got mine back in today and we're back on track! I've managed to get the car running back to how it originally was pretty much, I think it's still having a problem once it's hot but at least it's better than how it was yesterday!
As it stands now I don't think I can make it run any better by ear now and so i'm going to make do until the weekend and it's going down my mates garage where it can be tweaked much more accurately along with getting the exhaust sorted as my temporary fix has gone to pot with the engine mounts in need of a change!
So....Goodish/neutral news really from today, at least i've not completely f*cked it lol!

Re: Vincent the Volvou!

How it has been left for tonight ready to replace the radiator tomorrow morning. First time i've had the front end away and i'm very suprised at how clean and solid it is there, really happy about that
After fitting the radiator tomorrow all being well i'll be taking Vince down to my friends garage where we'll be taking a look at the carburettor and try sort out my running problem!

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
Well.... Not too bad a day today all in all
Started off this morning with a text of my friend with the garage saying he wasn't able to have a look at the car today, so no worries, I got in touch with my uncle whose messed with carbs in the past and he agreed to pop over and give me a hand
in the meantime I popped to Halfords and got me some coolant.
Reached back and began taking the old rad out, the fins were disintegrating as I was moving the damn thing lmao! Not good! Got it out anyway and began to fit the new radiator, my first hickup lol!
It appeared the new radiator (although probably a good thing running wise) was actually double the thickness of my original radiator, bugger! Not a problem though, the rubber bushes the rad locates onto we cut up

We then test fitted the radiator into place which showed it then stuck out too far. We ended up cutting away at the thick rubber block at the back of those bushes until the radiator would comfortably fit into place, sorted
Because of the extra thickness too, although it probably wasn't essential we decided to move the fan back a touch aswell and used a couple of washers to pack it out slightly, refitted all hoses etc etc with new jubilee clips and bled the system, the fan appears to cut in that little bit earlier now and the engine doesn't get as hot as what it did before when sitting there idling so it's all good so it seems! Job jobbed
second task was the carb! Was a bit scared about doing this as I hadn't done this sort of thing before! Obviously with my uncle giving me a helping hand and showing me what to do we got everything disconnected without any troubles and brought the carb into the garage. First started off by changing all the diaphragms on the exterior of the carb aswell as the little fuel filter and then opened up the top half of the carb to have a looksie inside, first thing we noticed was this....

Thats pretty much all the gasket that was there lol! The carb had obviously been opened up before but they musn't have replaced the gasket which is a bit of a p*sstake tbf! Anyway, checked all the float out etc and all seemed well, my uncle guided me through changing the float needle valve which was pretty cool
As for my jets it does appear somebody has f*cked the threads up on them....Twats! Luckily theres enough thread to get them seated and firm so they shouldn't move, in a perfect world I would have liked to have tried tapping the threads but I hadn't got the tools to hand, but no worries. Amongst all that we cleaned the inside and began to put it back together obviously using a new gasket for the 2 halfs
Took the carb back out to the carb and fitted it all back together using new jubilees for the carb coolant hoses and started him up! It ran suprisingly well considering we'd just done all that as my uncle did say it can take a little while for everything to settle back into place before it sorts itself, and I think now is just a case of seeing how things go and get it to a garage to be fine tuned now. It does appear to run a little happier in all fairness so *touch wood* hopefully we'll have cured the problem! Along with the fact the coolant doesn't appear to get as hot as what it did before will hopefully help out with the carb too. Like I say, not too bad a day tbf
Last job of the day was to refit the grill and bumper back on got a quick pic with nice fresh thick sliced radiator in there before doing so hehe!

And that's the end of my day now, time to jump in the shower and chill the f*ck out for this evening!

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
Hey guys, well a bit of an update since then!
Car had been running so so throughout the week, enough to get me to work and back, grabbed a couple quick pics while I was at my gf's waiting for her to reach back from work lol!

Filthy I know! Luckily thursday came along and the weather was mint, I had finished work early so I decided to wash the car, I also thought while i'd got the weather and time i'd give it a polish too! Firstly I used my snowfoam lance to give the car a blast of shampoo to breakdown any loose dirt then washed using Meguiars Gold Class shampoo with washmitt and 2 bucket method, then knowing how neglected the paintwork was I knew before i polished the car the paintowork would need a good claying! Just aswell I did, the amount of crap on the paintwork was hurrendous!

That was one panel! Not even the worst panel either lol, the bonnet being worst of all!
This was both claybars afterwards, I ended up using a full bottle of speed detailer to give you an idea how much I had to go over the car lol!

After that I then hand polished it using Poorboys SSR1, seriously I need to invest in a machine polisher lol! But the hard work paid off
by that time it was getting dark so I didn't have time to go over with AutoGlym SRP but I cleaned the glass and stuck my new stickers on, also removed my rear wiper arm, i'll eventually remove the wiper motor properly and get a bung in place! Took a couple piccies today so not as clean as it was a couple days ago but still ALOT better than it was before

During the week I also picked up this very handy book which i'm slowly going to work my way through reading and obviously keep aside for reference aswell

Very good informational book so a good purchase in my eyes!
On friday car started playing up a little again so I thought f*ck it, when I reached back I swapped my old idle mixture screw for the one that came in my carb kit, the new one was shorter but I can't help but think it's the one that should be in my carb and the old one wasn't the original (it was also slightly bent which I don't spose would help things!) Got it setup so it'd run and was better than how the cars previously been, so a step in the right direction! Although still wasn;'t running perfect!
So today comes, last night i'd managed to borrow a colourtune from my gfs dad, it hasn't been used in AGES so I had to give it a bit of a cleanup, hooked it up to the car anyway and it appeared the car was running a little rich so leaned it out half a turn and upto yet *touch wood* appears to be running even better now, again still not perfect. I think i'm gonna get it in my mates garage still when he's free and get it all checked over and setup properly, but for now it's running pretty good so i'm happy

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
Just been catching up with your thread. Changed rad yesterday and came up against the same thing, new one much thicker than the old one (I'd already weighed in the old one so couldn't compare them) thought I'd got the wrong one at first. I cut the rubbers too but kept both ends on (it was a pain squeezing on the clamps). Also had to put washers on cos of fan spacing. Keep up the good work!

Re: Vincent the Volvou!
yer i used both halfs of the rubbers too, just chopped back the thick block until the rad would fit. Must be a supercession on the thinner radiators or something the? It's definately worthit though to be honest, must help out loads compared to the cooling capacity of the old rads
