We Got It!

Post by Langers And Rambo » 18 Apr 2010 06:31 pm

Picked her up today, and shes a darlin'!

Body works as good as ya gonna get for a 24 year old car, dizzy cap, leads and plugs are all spot on. New battery to which were chuffed to death at! Sunroofs fine just a flip up one, and we have pop out rear windows! It even has the original stereo, which may I add will be removed if any one is restoring one to its former glory and wants it let me know.
Interiors absolutely split mint, not even any wear on the seats! All electrics and mechanicals, wipers, heaters etc work perfect.

Only initial gripes are exhaust could do with a extra bracket, its a bit wobbly, will have a look tomorrow.
Tickovers a little low will have a play tomorrow.
Clutch is a little noisy when idling, pedal in its fine, pedal out it sounds like a rusty bag of spanners is in there so that sounds like a worthwhile investment (any pointers in the right direction much appreciated)
Rearview mirror keeps falling off, its only a stick on sucker one, looks like the windscreen has been replaced for one without a bracket if you get me.

But all things aside, shes a beauty!

Sounds like clutch release bearing.
Worth doing the lot if youre gonna bother.
3 piece kits are available cheap enough on ebay and its not TOO bad of a job on a 340.
Clutch change walk thru
Sounds like a bargain to me at the money!

cool might even be worth getting a spare for the trip, if it aint used could palm it off on here i guess.

i want to start compiling a must have list of common consumables to take.

such as:
plugs
belts
cables
tubes
fluids
fuses
bulbs etc

that you guys in your vast wealth of experience have encountered regular problems with. I have 2 months to get this right chaps!

You wont need another clutch man. Gospel.

Fuel lines (fabric) are prone to disintergrate.
Inspection hatch on boot floor, and under the bonnet are areas to check man.

Check the rad (visually for missing fins, and gun it on a trip to see if the temp goes high) before you set off. But these cars really arnt known for being high maintainance.
A good service before you go, and fill the boot with beer.

Under the boot carpet, on the boot floor, theres a small round black inspection hatch.
Lift that and it gives access to the top of the tank and and the fabric fuel lines coming off.
These can disintergrate causing leaks. Not always, but its known.
So check em.

Actually if pedal in is fine but out is noisy it could well be the bellhousing bearing, not the crb as adam pointed out to me once.
