crash safety

Post by brad360 »

There is a Victorian state government site www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au that supposedly gives various cars safety ratings.

The 360GLT gets an average score.
There isn't much on the site about their methodology for older cars, and considering the 360 is not a common car here the data is likely to be based on a small number of crashes. As far as I see it is about what happens if you crash, it doesn't say how likely you are to crash in the first place.

Does anyone know of any other data about 360 safety?

I saw on UK ebay a 1989 360 for sale, it had airbags and ABS. When were these two features introduced? I think the last 360s sold here were 1987. I noticed mine has plenty of space inside the steering wheel, were airbags an option in 1986?

Did any ever have rear discs?

I recently saw a newish Honda Jazz or Civic/Jazz or something Jazz, that had rear drums.

I had a Morris Minor with 4 drums, a good idea to use the brakes after going through puddles, dried them out.

I am surprised the indicator stalk is on the left, and this is apparently common in the UK, except for Japanese cars. I've driven a few pommy lemons and they all had it on the right.

On the left is a bit of a nuisance when it turns off when you want it to stay on and you're in the middle of changing gears, I thought Volvo would go to the bother of swapping it over.

Here a couple of interesting pictures of one of my cars http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... 0&start=15

The car you saw on Ebay, was it maroon? That I believe was a mistake in the advert. I don't think ABS or airbags were ever a factory option, at least in the UK.

It can be frustrating having cars in the UK with the indicator stalk on different sides. TBH I prefer it being on the left, as then it's only one hand you need to remove from the steering wheel.

It would be interesting to find some decent crash test info on the 360 GLT, as Foggy said though some recent tests showed that it still stood up pretty well compared to some modern cars, despite not being equipped with all the new safety gadgets.

You can't beat metal beams in the doors, except for the weight ;)

I really don't want to crash my car, but if I do, I know I'm much safer than if I was in another car of a similar age...
