can i get distributor cap off a b17 with a philips and a 10m
Re: can i get distributor cap off a b17 with a philips and a
If it's the same as a 1.4 i got mine of with just a stumpy philips screwdriver, iirc it makes life easier to get the heater box out of the way but can be done with it in situ.

Hopefully by now you'll have got your dizzy cap off and all sorted, but if you're still stuck, then something which can get you a little more room is to remove the heater intake box, its not too difficult, two screws on the top and a 10mm nut/bolt depending on the age of the car inside the air intake itself. Then disconnect the wiring, either right in the middle on older cars or on newer cars you gently pull on the wire where it disappears into the bulkhead, remove the grommet and disconnect the connector there. Once you've done that then you can withdraw the box diagonally past the heater cable out the passenger side.
Should give you a little more room anyway. If all else fails and you know you're changing the cap anyway, then use a hammer and chisel to break the cap off so you can get the screws out that way.
Hope that helps.

Re: can i get distributor cap off a b17 with a philips and a
It started when I got there so just drove it, it broke down 2 miles later in a puff of smoke,
took out and cleaned plugs, tried again, nothing..
Took off the dizzy cap.. FULL!!! of crud, crusty "tartar" carbon dust, spring was jammed and not pushing on the centre electrode - (It's the original cap!), Scraped clean with the stubby philips, made the sign of the cross
and turned key, Purrs like a kitten
absolutely faultless drive (apart from it pulls a bit* to the left)
only probs are:
Speedo is a bit boingy under 40.
Cigarette lighter is rusted and not working.
Passenger window and central locking is stiff.
Scratch down pass door, very tiny, thick layer of touch up that needs T-Cutting hopefully to perfection,
Little bubbles of rust on bootlid corners.
That is IT!
Oh yeah it's got a full tank of gas and 4 goodyear tyres with naff all wear.
MOT is only 2 weeks.. but it's passing, come hell or high water (or dielecric substances encrusted on terminals
)
Its done 215 miles since 01/2009
does the b17 have a cambelt?
Might read the manual but I'm in for the night now, been an adventure!
YEEEAAAAHHHHHH!!! That's how you do it.
32,515 miles!!! it feels new, newer than any I've driven before...
MEGA SMILEYS!!
