Checked the block connectors still in at the back?
Can't see how putting a CD in the stereo would cause this though.

Oh we have a tech section aswell

Hmmm. Do you get any lights at the top? It's likely that if none of them work then the circuit has broken. As they all run through one earth I'd put my money on that.

the green wire is a 15+ or "ignition on" wire,

you are ment to hook the radio up parralel to the original plug. he used the green wire as a feed for the radio; this means the cluster doesn't get current. solution is to keep the green wires attached (actually all the wires that are there) and then connect the radio to them.

has he cut the original connector/plug off? there are original plug & play looms from the volvo connector to ISO standard connectors you know, they don't cost a thing

Sorry my misunderstanding, he's put a CD headunit in the car.

Not just a Cd into the headunit like it sounds like it's worded

z0mg he cut the plug on the 25K mile wiring loom?!

What Anjo is saying makes sense. Whatever happened to testing things first? I gotta agree too, CD sounds like you mean the disc and not the HU, but you can just about understand it.
Pull it out and put back the feed to the cluster then do it/get your brother to do it properly. I thought you were a mechanic?? I know technically that's auto electrican territory, but it's also car modifying 101!

Hope you get sorted.

All of that just from putting a compact disc inside a car.

Well I never.
