Insurance for a vitara, will FJ do it under a classic policy

Post by CBA »

I'm looking at a 95' Vitara LWB 1.6i 16v JLX, Quoted £4400.00 so far, 5 years ago I had one insured for £990
I have clean license of 8 years but no NCB at all. No accidents ever, no convictions ever.

You think FJ will allow it on a classic policy, I've had 2 340's and a Jag XJ6 so far on FJ classic policies (all under £200 Fully comp) and had no claims whatsoever.
Would they do me a fair price you think, limited mileage etc? Anyone had any experience insuring only just* classic cars with FJ.. The vit is a classic in its own right, it has owners clubs and everything, parts are a bitch to find etc - this one is 16 years old.

The annoying thing is this has the lowest power to weight ratio out of all the cars mentioned - for this price I could insure most of V3M

if you have never had claims - why do you not have any NCB?

I don't know what you expect us to say really  Give them a ring, it'll only take 10 minutes. As it's a 4x4 I expect they'll insure it.

never had insurance for a whole year ever, cars don't last that long for me - I keep myself going on truly end-of-life vehicles, this (my 340) is the only thing I've ever MOT'd  and that was blind luck.

Ditto, we're not them. ASK THEM!

Aye, and it was no bother*.

That sir, is most like in no-man's land. *Anything over 30 years old, you won't have any argument about. Anything 20 to 30 years old isn't too much bother either. Anything less than 20 years old is one man's classic or another man's banger. I'd guess it'd have to be just a wee bit more exotic than a Vitara to qualify at less than twenty years old. It all depends on what the rules of a particular specialist scheme is.

Is there an owners club insurance discount scheme?

If you switch cars on the same policy rather than canceling you will get a NCB.

I tried that when I changed from my jag to this, FJ said the policy was from a Jag-only broker, but the new policy was exactly the same price ??? - plus you get no no-claims on classic policies but I could be wrong about that
