Just like to say a huge thank you to Pete ,
He came over today and after checking a few other things we changed the fuel pump on the GLE , It started first try and we have had it out on the road , everything works except the choke wont shut off when you push the knob in ( any suggestions on a cure please ) and the fast setting on the blower fan
Pete your a star and thanks to Foggy and Pettaw for there suggestions

Mick, you're most welcome! Forgot to check the fuses for the 3rd fan speed after the cup of tea, from memory that'd be it as it's on a different fuse to settings 1 and 2.
As Mick said, started first turn of the key with the new fuel pump. Ran well indeed, and it's a good car.

It'll be the insulation on the knobby bit. There's a black bit that makes the light go off by insulating the contacts. Just make sure the actual knob is going all the way in properly. If not then an adjustment on the cable is in order.
Edit: I've just chatted to Pete about it and I reckon either you need a new cable or the clip on it has busted and needs reattaching properly.
Erm the fan thing, either the full speed relay has gone or the fuse.

Re: thank you
Mine used to do the same thing when I first got the car. Turned out the outer sleve of the choke cable became detatched at the driver's end. It pulled out ok by stopping against the bracket which holds it, but when pushing back in the whole cable moved.redline wrote:... the choke wont shut off when you push the knob in ( any suggestions on a cure please )
My heroic repair involved putting a jubilee clip around the cable and the steering column (choose a bit which doesn't move when you steer) and doing it up tight to hold the cable outer in place. Job's a good 'un, works every time now!
Hope this is of some help - might be a different problem entirely, but it's worth a look.
Cheers
